Bunny Buns

Spread the love

Every year one of our babysitters brings her bunnies to our house before Easter to make things a little festive.  I try and make Easter-themed snacks for the kids to munch while waiting for their turn with the bunnies.   Last year, I really liked how my tortilla chick chips turned out.

So this year I thought I’d try making some bunny buns I saw as a snack (where else, but on Pinterest, right?) but I couldn’t find the recipe or instructions.  So I found this recipe on Betty Crocker’s website for making turtle breads and it sounded pretty easy and I figured we could use it to make bunny shapes.  It was a little cloudy this morning and the boys wanted to bake, so today was the trial run.

The flour part of the recipe is pretty flexible so it’s a great bread recipe for making with kids.  The guys loved kneading the dough and putting it to rest and they loved thinking about their bunny buns while we played and waited for them to rise.

10 minutes later we shaped the dough.  We had a whole zoo of bun characters-turtle buns, shark buns and bunny buns too.

I especially liked how determined the Bean was at trying to get the hedgehog eyeballs in the right place.

When they came out of the oven, the guys were thrilled.  Leelee made a turtle.

And here’s the Bean’s hedgehog-I thought it was adorable.

But the bunny needs work-his nose disappeared during the baking process.  I need to shape it better or add a chocolate chip.  Maybe angel hair pasta for whiskers next time we make bunny buns?

Thank goodness this was a trial run.  And they were so yummy and easy, I definitely wouldn’t mind making them again.
