So maybe I would have loved to go to the Epic Playdate Weekend in California-it looked like it would be so much fun, but we were gearing up for our Atlanta trip and I didn’t think we could fit it all in. As a stay-at-home mom, I think it’s hard not to feel like we are always playdating together and sometimes I run out of ideas or I get totally overwhelmed by all the amazing stuff we can maybe do. Like if we just hopped in a car and drove to Santa Monica for a weekend. (Yes, it’s fun to dream.) I love when a fabulous idea falls into your lap….
Like this movie barn party, Maggie from Mighty Girl threw for her son at her sister’s farm. It’s the perfect 6-year old party and I love how simple and beautiful this whole party turned out. Balloons. Animals. Popcorn. And a really smiley happy kid. (Here’s the video. I would LOVE to throw/go to/copy a party like this.)
All this simplicity and loveliness got me thinking about what a wonderful playdate with OUR family could look like this summer. Now my sister doesn’t have a barn, but I have a brother-in-law with a pretty fabulous cabin on a beautiful island. And hopefully when we drive up north again, we’ll head out to Valdes Island to spend some more fabulous family time together.
And this year I can’t wait to see how my dog-nephew loves frolicking around. This is the coy face he gave me
after I found out he DESTROYED his bed when I was dog-sitting the other day.
His Grandpa Captain Bruce is the best boat driver and he always points out amazing wildlife on our trips to Valdes. (If you ever need a great water tour in Steveston BC, he’s definitely the guide you want to find.)
I can’t wait to see the guys run around on the beach. (This is my favorite part of summer.)
And I don’t think we can do balloons but maybe lots of candles. We may even try to MAKE OUR OWN!!
We’ll definitely have desserts. (This was a strawberry rhubarb pie we decided we MUST have at the grocery store the other day.)
And I’ll keep the movie barn party idea in my back pocket. Maybe when the guys turn six. (Hey Farmer Jayne, I wonder if we could do a movie at your barn????)
