How to make the perfect picnic with kids at Warren G Magnusen Park

I always lament the fact that I fly by the seat of my pants and don’t take time to prep picnics.  I just find it’s hard to decide when you wake up in the morning what you want for lunch, let alone go somewhere where you’re going to actually enjoy it outdoors.  Luckily for us, we discovered a great find near Magnusen Park (One of our favorite Seattle playgrounds!) that takes care of the picnic making.
Hello 60th street Desserts! (An update!  I think this may now be closed as of June 2016….if you’ve been there recently can you let me know?)

Yummy desserts, sandwiches and salads and even a drive-thru if you don’t want to get out of your car. A drive-thru!  (When the twins were little I thought I visited every drive thru in Seattle but I totally missed this one!)

And if you miss this and just end up at the park and want to stay for lunch, there is now a cute new little food trailer called the Caddy Shack right next to the playground.  I was surprised at the awesome quality of my 5 dollar sandwich and the healthy kid’s meal options under 5 dollars too.  On hot days their Whidbey Island Ice Cream really hits the spot so I’m really thankful that this little stand just popped up.

As with most food places when you have unpredictable kids in tow, it’s probably best to go before noon when everyone else has the same picnic idea that you have.  I’ve seen a lot of lineups already this summer.  And after a day of play and food when the kids are a little more tired you can head to shop at Uvillage a few minutes away.  (This is what I did while my guys were at Pedalheads bike camp!)  Or do this adventure in reverse and have a great bribery tool while you shop.  We’ll be doing this a lot this summer!  I think we’re at the “we love parks” stage.  (I just wish there were better bathrooms.  There are outhouses here. Blech.)
