Every year we stay in tons of hotels, and so many of them are so wonderful. Here are a handful that we’ve been to more than once, or we love so much, we know we’ll go back.
Vancouver, BC: The Sunset Inn. It’s not anything spectacular, but has clean and reasonable one-bedroom suites and a fantastic location near our favorite Greek Restaurant(Stepho’s)(AND the biggest plus? Free parking in downtown Vancouver and a walkable distance to the False Creek Ferry Station to Granville Island.) I also love the Westin Grand. It was our very first hotel stay with the guys and we were treated absolutely wonderfully. On a recent trip we tried the Residence Inn Downtown Vancouver too and it was convenient to downtown, it was nice having breakfast included and the kids enjoyed the pool.
Victoria, BC: Brentwood Bay Resort. We stayed here pre-kids when it just opened and loved how serene and beautiful it was. We ate at the restaurants on-site-I think it’s a little far from downtown Victoria if you don’t have your own transportation. I would love to go back for a relaxing getaway. We’ve also stayed at the the Royal Scot hotels and Suites when the kids were about a year old and it was reasonably priced, comfortable (a little dated, but it kind of suits Victoria) and in a convenient location.
Honolulu, HI: Outrigger Reef on the Beach. We love it’s location on the Waikiki strip and we’ve rented a one bedroom here that just seemed ginormous. The hotel’s restaurant “the Shorebird” has a pretty yummy buffet that is great for early mornings with kids and the boys love the band Manoa DNA that plays in the Kani Ka Pila Grille. (We just wish they had a bigger pool!) For big and amazing pools we love the Hilton Hawaiian Village and the hubby loves that this hotel is where Hawaii 5-0 is filmed. (And yes, one time we stayed in the penthouse there and it was SPECTACULAR!!!!)
Kailua, HI: Paradise Bay Resort. It’s tropical, down to earth and gorgeous. We could have kayaked here for ever and the nearby Kailua town is fun to explore. Our room was spacious, clean and comfortable and I really liked the location.
Maui: Napili Kai Beach Resort. Oh this was a magical holiday. Beach-front two story buildings. A perfect beach for building sand-castles, swims and paddle boarding. A beautiful Hawaiian family feeling.
North Shore, HI: Turtle Bay Resort. Specifically their cottages. We stayed there during a rainstorm and it was still fantastic, but I’m dying to go back. The cottages are spacious, with gorgeous huge bathtubs and they are oh so close to the beach.
Newport Beach, California: Marriott Coast Villas. I like to pretend this place is my home away from home. They have big suites and are a short distance away from Crystal Cove and Fashion Island (My favorite outdoor mall.)
Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica: I fell in love with this one because of its website. The Hotel Si Como No in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica is a gorgeous hotel, has a great family friendly pool with swim up bar and we watched monkeys and iguanas from our balcony!
Portland, Oregon. There is no better place to stay than the Kimpton Hotel Monaco. They are sweet with kids and dogs and their hotel is decorated beautifully. They have rooms with dividers that make it easy to go with kids and I love their wine and snack hour. This hotel also has a great location, free bikes and free wifi if you are signed up to their loyalty program.
San Diego, California. I’d go back to La Jolla Beach and Tennis Club in a heartbeat. The rooms are a little dated but the one and two bedroom condos in this hotel have a perfect water view and awesome beach access. The hotel is only two floors tall and the beach front rooms are spectacular. I would love to have a family reunion here one day and eat on the beach.
Fiesta American Grand Coral Beach Cancun: this hotel is spectacular. We did the club level and it came with some really nice perks, like breakfast, snacks and drinks in their club room which were absolutely amazing! The pool is probably the best pool I’ve ever been in: nice shallow areas for the kids, interesting things like a slide and spray features to entertain them and warm like bathwater so we could stay in it all day.
Na Balam Isla Mujeres: this one is a little dated-the rooms could use a little freshening up, but they are clean and nice and the beach in front of the hotel (Playa Norte) is so fantastic and shallow for kids I can’t imagine staying anywhere else in Isla Mujeres.
