Disneyland with a boy terrified of rides….

Spread the love

This is how I imagined my boys would look at Disneyland.

Disneyland with a boy terrified of rides

But one boy is currently a little scared of indoor rides, loud noises, things that have scary parts, anything that might have a tunnel and the outside of the Tiki Tiki Tiki Room.  So at one point we had a few tears and it looked like we wouldn’t make it through just one day.

Thank goodness we also have a boy who is good at navigation.  We took the ferry to Tom Sawyer’s Island and plotted some ideas so that we could have a fun adventure.

We even peeked in a few of the secret caves of Tom Sawyer Island that I never knew existed.  I can’t believe I’ve never done this before-there’s a whole network of them all over the island.  The caves were not totally dark because the hubby used the flashlight app on his phone and the boys have light up shoes.  (The duo’s rationale not mine but I took it because it allowed us one more thing to do in Disneyland.)

We rode Dumbo countless times.  And the carousel.  And a little train we lined up in the sun for way way too long.

Autotopia was also a hit.

We even rode on an old fire engine too.  (This also was another first.  I always wondered who actually rode these rides on Main Street in Disneyland….)

We visited with some old friends.

Then sat down to enjoy the parade.

And now that we’re back they can’t stop talking about the Tiki Tiki Tiki Room or Splash Splash mountain.  According to the duo, they’ll be ready to do these things and maybe even all the best rides at Disneyland when they’re five.  We’ll see.

  1. I have an 8 year old that won’t ride rollercoasters and is still a little afraid of some of the dark rides – she hated Haunted Mansion and would have nothing to do with Pirates of the Caribbean. The great thing about Disney is that there is still lots to do even for kids that are a little bit timid. Your little guys must have enjoyed their day if they are planning to go back when they are 5 – I’m sure they will be very brave by then.

  2. I took my kids to a theme park in Bangkok a few months ago. My four year old is still talking about the Witches house with the scary music. She ran out of there screaming and still is afraid of it. Thankfully we found plenty of rides that were less scary … most look like the ones you were on. I am glad you had a wonderful day even without the rollercoasters. Looks like you discovered some great things you never would have seen otherwise.

  3. I’m glad to hear everything ended up going smoothly!

I’m lucky enough to have and 8 year old who would ride everything he is allowed to. He can’t wait to be tall enough for the scariest rides.
