One of those afternoons where goo solves everything

Homemade goo solves everything with kids

The other day was one of those afternoons where we were all sleepy but not sleepy enough to nap.  (Well, one of us was, but that would leave Thing 1 and Thing 2 to their own antics….) We had glued eyeballs on our ghost rocks and the guys began to eye other things in the house that might like to be stuck together.  I had to think of something.

At that moment 2 parts cornstarch to 1 part water became a magical equation.  Put your cornstarch in a big bowl.  (I dropped in a couple drops of yellow and blue coloring too.  This is one cup of cornstarch.) Then I divided a half cup of water into about 6 small cups.  Each time the guys dumped a cup into the bowl, the goo got a little bit more fun.

I could have taken a nap, but this was too fun to watch.

And cleanup?  This stuff just wipes away.  I think this bought me about an hour of peaceful, scientific play.  Can we make it into a ball?  How high can we drip it from?  Why does it feel hard when we bash it, but it feels watery when we hold it?  By the time they were finished, my brains had re-grouped and the afternoon was no longer daunting.

Goo.  Is.  Magic.  Who knew?

  1. Reed loves to play with goo at daycare too. I haven’t been brave enough to try it at home yet though. But maybe I will now!
