New Year, New Goals and something you could win

Spread the love

I don’t know about you, but someone gave herself a lot of cookbooks for Christmas this year.  And instead of just keeping them there on my shelves to make me look like I’m a foodie, (Oh no I just realized I do this with my novels too to make me look like I read.  Oh dear.) I’m actually going to break their pristine spines.  Yesterday, I perused through one of my best splurges: the Smitten Kitchen Cookbook

and picked out a recipe for a roast vegetable quinoa dish: a recipe called roasted baby roots with sherry-shallot vinaigrette.

In her book, Deb Perelman uses radishes which I’ve sadly never had roasted until yesterday.  How fitting that they taste like daikon (my favorite Japanese vegetable, coincidentally also a type of radish.)  Anyways, I used radishes, parsnips, potatoes and yellow beets, roasted them in the oven and made the vinaigrette just like the book.  And it turned out!  Yum yum yum!

And since I’d already used quinoa for something else, I just served it with lettuce as a salad.  But I’ll definitely make it again.  Maybe I just need to make a recipe a day from this book.  We’ll see.  Anyone else trying new recipes in the New Year? Any other cookbooks I need to add to my post-Christmas want list?  Let me know what you’re doing for the New Year below by 23:59 on January 7th 2013 and I’ll draw one name for a copy of this lovely book so you’ll have the recipe for yourself.  Might as well start the New Year right with sharing and all:)  You get a bonus entry if you like my FB page and let me know in the comments below too.

(PS I’m not being sponsored for this giveaway and it’s open to residents of Canada and the USA only.  I just love this book and how the Smitten Kitchen blog has enhanced my life and I wanted to share it with someone lovely and oh my goodness, why should Oprah get all the fun with favorite things? Happy 2013!)

(PPS, that Jemma?  She’s a party animal!)

  1. OMG, I totally want this cookbook!! What am I doing for the New Year? Spending it with my family. . we had some traditional Korean duk mandoo guk soup and have stayed in all day. . watching movies and relaxing. It’s been quite nice and I actually took a nap with my youngest today. 🙂

  2. My plans for the new year are planning a Curious George birthday for my almost 3 (oh my goodness!) year old and prepping for baby number 2 in February… fun fun! And hopefully cooking up some new recipes 😉

  3. For the new year I’m going to travel and enjoy life. The cookbook sounds great and convinced me that I need to do more cooking this year–and try to enjoy the process.
