Rainy Shopping on what should be a snowy Monday and a new direction for next year

Spread the love

There was a little piece of me that was hoping for snow today instead of liquid sunshine, but at least the warmer weather means that we’ll be able to start planting outside soon.  I’ve been successful with my old food garden-you can grow all sorts of vegetable tops-except I can’t get avocado seeds to grow for the life of me.  I think we’ve gone through at least 5 pits now.

In the realm of shopping, there’s been a growth of packages showing up at door in the last little while (and I’ve been trying to squirrel them away quickly so it doesn’t look like TOO many are arriving.)  I recently received My Fabletics purchase.  They’re a workout clothes/subscription type company and I was a little intrigued by their 50% off your first purchase offer and I thought it might be a neat way to get myself focused on exercising but I didn’t totally like the feel of the stuff I got.  Even though they’re eons better than some of the hideous stuff I’ve worn for exercising I don’t know if this purchase will excite me enough to motivate me.  I’m also biased because I forgot I have short legs so I’m going to have to get my pants shortened drastically to make them fit.  I’ll have to remember to choose items that are cropped or avoid pant purchases all together if I keep this one up.  (I am horrible at returning things or getting things hemmed.)

I also cancelled my IPSY subscription that my bestie recommended even though it was pretty awesome.  I received some neat products but they were similar to what I was already receiving in Birchbox and I preferred that Birchbox packaging was at least recyclable and I’ve had it for so long that I didn’t feel right switching.

I have way too many unused makeup bags and I am trying to reduce my impact on the environment.

I do still love my GoldenTote purchases (this month had such a cute sweater and scarf with the item that I picked!) and I had some fun last month crafting with some girlfriends with some craft boxes I bought at Darbysmart.

(PS. Jamie I’m loving the Fault in Our Stars book you recommended!)

But our biggest purchase lately happened because my guys are starting school next year, and the hubby and I were starting to feel antsy because we love to just get away and travel and we weren’t sure how to do it.  So when we were in Suncadia a few weeks ago or maybe in Whistler a few months before that an idea began to percolate about making a cabin in the woods so that we can enjoy exploring Washington a little more as the guys’ sports/lessons/school start to make it a little harder to get away.  And while we do need a new bathroom and maybe more space in our house this whole crazy idea just sounded more romantic and fun than anything and we had to figure out how to do it.

So we purchased a little plot of land and now we’re figuring out how the process works.  I’ve been meeting with some amazing architects and I can’t wait to show you how the whole cabin plan grows.  So in the next little while some of my Monday purchases might be a little bit more homey than makeup, but I hope they’ll be helpful to you too.  We have NO idea what we’re doing and the whole thing is buried under 8 or 9 feet of snow right now which would be so much more festive than the drizzly rain here.

So wherever you are I hope you might be getting some snow right now too and I hope you have a lovely Monday!

(PS. if you know how to grow an avocado pit or know what to do with these root veggies now that I’ve got them growing, please PLEASE let me know.  Thanks!)

    1. Haha right now it would be ice camping:) It’s up in Snoqualmie so this time next year if all goes well we should totally be able to hang out up there, if not sooner:)

  1. I’m inviting myself (and my family) to your cabin. LOL. Totally up my husband’s alley. I dunno… I might never leave the cabin if there’s snow outside. HA! I’ll cook for you guys though! Can’t wait to hear more about your new adventure!
