Spread the love

I’ve seen a wave of things being advertised for mom for Mother’s Day in the last few days and a few gems have caught my eye, especially if you live in the Seattle area.

I love shopping at Uvillage (along with probably every other mom in Seattle) and the coolest gift idea I’ve seen are these gift boxes they’ve put together because not only are they pretty amazing but 100% of the proceeds from these gifts goes to Seattle Ronald McDonald house.

I also like this gift box from Acme Farms and Kitchen (a really cool farm subscription box from Bellingham that I’ve been ordering recently). I think it needs to be ordered soon but it has a variety of lovely Pacific Northwest goodies like Quin candies and a Grapefruit and Bergamot body lotion made in La Conner that sounds really heavenly and I might even order one for myself.

And something that I love that I HAVE been ordering for myself this year is a neat idea started by Katie, a lovely local mom (she writes the blog Bellingfam and it’s fabulous) called This is My Fave.  It’s an innovative subscription that you commit to for 3 months and each month you get someone’s name and a mystery item that you buy for around 10 dollars and send.  This month I sent and received some sparkly new nail polishes (thank you Reegan!) in the mail and I love that through this subscription you connect with the curator too.

subscriptions that are like penpals

If you or your mom like local reads, I just finished Gemini by Carol Cassella, a fabulous Seattle author (and double mom of twins!) and I especially loved the sense of place I felt as the characters visited northwest landmarks that I frequent.

sea-themed books for young readers

And because one of my favorite things to do is curl up and read with my guys, two books I received recently are pretty notable if your kids are interested in the sea-life we have in the Pacific Northwest.  I love the Larry Gets Lost books because they are whimsical but also have a lot of facts and this new Larry book called Larry Gets Lost Under the Sea talks all about the sea and the different zones where creatures live.  (My guys also know these zones because of the Octonauts so they found this book fascinating.) I appreciated the list of aquariums around the United States in the back of the book because the kids and I spent some time talking about the aquariums we might eventually visit to learn more about what lives undersea and I always like imagining about more travel with my kids.  The other book Elliot the Otter, by Eric Ode is neat because it is about Elliott Bay and it’s informative without overstepping being entertaining and my guys liked the otter and his expressions.

So with that, I hope you’re having a happy Monday and maybe shopping too or thinking about mom and if you have any Northwest gift ideas I’d love to hear as well!

(PS. I received copies of Elliott the Otter and Larry Gets Lost from Sasquatch Books but was not required to post and the ideas above about the things I love are as always mine and mine alone.)
