Adventuring in the New Year

Spread the love

Who else is going to grab 2016 by the reins this year and see what adventures unfold?  I am so excited for this year and normally I like to temper the excitement with a little apprehension to even it out, but I’m learning that life is too short for that.  Let’s just bring it this year, okay?

snowshoeing with kids

So we’ve started the year with a couple days on the mountain and all the adventures that come with snow, even though I get a little terrified of things like getting stuck in chairlifts and getting lost in forests.  (If your kids have ever read the Scaredy Squirrel series, that’s me in a nutshell.  Literally.)

The cabin may be perpetually almost finished, but it feels like we are making more forward progress and it’s fun to explore the Snoqualmie Pass area.  We’re so lucky to have such a mountain paradise so close to Seattle.

room and board delivered in the snow

We even have a few pieces of furniture thanks to some dedicated delivery guys at Room and Board.  Despite getting their 18-wheeler completely stuck for hours and having to dig and lift to haul our sofa from their stuck truck, they still smiled and joked their way into our lives and made the experience a pleasant one-apparently this had happened to them in Suncadia too!  I guess the Northwest really got more snow than anyone anticipated this year!

And as for travels we have a few ideas up our sleeve, especially because of all the adventures I’ve seen on Instagram lately!  I love Mary’s European travel adventures and Ai Sakura’s posts about Singapore. Sarah’s Kenyan Safari is amazing and I’m always in love with La Jolla mom and Travel Babbo’s dreamy adventures too!

Do you have any plans for 2016?  I’d love to hear what you’re up to!

(PS if you’re looking for snowshoes for kids my guys use these Atlas ones.  And if you snowshoe with kids I’d love to hear if you have a brand you love too!)

  1. I love all your snow pictures! It’s been 90* where I am everyday. I’d love a taste of that snow 🙂

  2. Love all that snow… gorgeous!! We head to Colorado in a few weeks to enjoy some of our own. Being in SoCal we don’t get to play very much in the snow 😉 We are headed to Coronado CA this weekend. Don’t know where for Spring break and Summer. Then Florida for the theme parks in November and Royal Caribbeans Harmony of the Seas in the fall.

  3. I’m loving all of the snow! I’ve been wanting to visit Iceland for a while and I found some great deals so I’m planning for that later this year hopefully. 🙂

  4. Thanks for the snowshoe tip for kids! I need to get some for my kids soon. This year’s travel itinerary so far includes Sonoma wine country, Park City, Utah, maybe northern California, and Switzerland + either France, Germany, and/or Austria are all on the table. We’ll see where we end up going in the end 🙂

  5. Gorgeous photos! I agree, we are so lucky to live so close to such winter paradises!
