In the next few weeks you’ll be hearing a lot about our recent trip to Belize with kids. It was a really eye-opening trip and I’m thankful for all the trip-planning help we had before we went. And I can’t wait to tell you more.
We stayed at the Belize Zoo’s Tropical Education Center and toured the Belize Zoo with its amazing director Sharon Matola and the boys had a blast. There were so many animals that were native to Belize and my kids had a lot of fun learning about them. This is definitely one reason why Belize would be a great trip for families.
We also stayed at IZE in South Water Caye where it felt like we had the whole island to ourselves. We could paddle around in the still water and we ate some really great meals and felt at peace.
We took quite a a few internal flights on teeny planes (we rode Maya Island Air) and they were amazingly smooth. It was a little strange for us to use airplanes like taxis but this really was the only way to see so much in a short time.
We also rented a car and drove around and it was great having independence to see things we might not have otherwise seen. We even got stuck behind a bike race.
We also enjoyed riding a golf cart on Ambergris Caye.
And we snorkeled and spelunked and visited some ruins.
And now we’re home and it all seems like a beautiful dream. Have you been to Belize? I’d love to hear where you visited too!

We were in Belize a few years ago, before we had children. We only spent one day there, on way to Guatemala, but it was such a wonderful place we’d been planning to go back ever since. I’m looking forward to reading about Belize as a family destination: I’d love to go again, with the children!
It was a great trip! We were hoping to visit Guatemala too! It looks like such an incredible place to visit.
Looks beautiful.
