When you celebrate Mother’s Day a week early with Amazon Prime and Mom 2.0

Spread the love

It seems almost a hundred years ago now when I was a new twin mom in Seattle and I still had a flip phone that I heard about a seemingly mythical drive through grocery store about an hour north of me. I was so envious of the people who lived nearby it who could just sit in their car and space out and maybe read a book or zone into nothingness while somebody put their groceries into the trunk.  I never had a chance to visit the grocery store as it was too much effort to drive that far with two baby twins in tow and it didn’t have all the things I needed at the time but I still remember dreaming that one day we would have more grocery stores like this.  And now we have Amazon everything and Amazon Prime and my mine would have been absolutely blown.

Can you believe where technology has taken us in the shopping world?

I so wish now that I could go back in time and tell that tired soul of mine how magical life would end up. That I would one day be able to order groceries from my device and they would end up at my house.  That I can order food from Amazon Restaurants while I’m at soccer practice or the park with the kids and know when the delivery is arriving so we can time our return home perfectly so that there is no lag time between entering in the door and having a meal on the table.  I watch movies and shows for free on demand while I exercise on my elliptical bike in the basement and all my photos fly through the air from my phone to a storage area somewhere in the universe so I never have to worry about backing up hard drives of my memories and remembering where I put them.  And this is only in the span of the lifetime since I’ve become a mom-it really hasn’t been a hundred years. My kids are turning 10 years old this year and life as I used to know it in the early days of motherhood has been turned on its flip side to become more efficient, more economical and ultimately I have more me time and I do have to give a lot of thanks to Amazon Prime.

Dinner with Amazon Prime at Mom 2.0

Thank you Amazon Prime

And now I have even more reason to thank Amazon Prime.  Last weekend I was in California at my first Mom 2.0 conference and I was whisked away on a bus full of other moms who were also invited out to a dinner with Amazon Prime.  They took us to a lovely restaurant in Pasadena where we chatted and ate and drank and learned about all the things Amazon Prime does.  Not surprisingly, many of us there realized that we use this company daily, if not hourly in our lives.  I was thankful because I was seated next to TerriAnn who writes Cookies and Clogs and we’ve talked through instagram and blogging before but I hadn’t really chatted with her in real life and she is so lovely I felt like we had known each other forever.  I also got to meet two best friends who are podcasting and seem to be having the time of their lives growing up together and raising their kids and they tried to inspire me to be more spontaneous and do things that scare me.

And then our Oprah moment came.  You know the part where she brings out all the surprises?  We were told to go and see our surprises.  OUR SURPRISES!

We received giant surprises in the prettiest amazon boxes, I’ve ever seen.

Mother’s Day Surprises

Apparently it was an early Mother’s Day last weekend and Amazon Prime was surprising us with a bunch of things we didn’t even order; a bunch of things us moms didn’t even know we were dreaming of.

A kindle.  A Polaroid camera that I’ve always been tempted to put in my cart. Some Wickedly Prime Puffed Snacks that I need to reorder for my family because I ate them all before I got home.  A luxury candle that I passed on to one of my best friends (another mom I adore) because she loves candles and both of our jaws dropped when we saw how spendy it was and she is now going to tell me what burning a dollar an hour smells like in her bathroom.  I wish I could come up with gifts like this for the people in my life that I adore and want to honor and celebrate too.

So now I’m back from the conference and back to my home in Seattle after Mom 2.0 feeling a little like Cinderella holding her glass slipper after a glorious ball.  Thankfully I have pictures and souvenirs and so many fantastic memories.  Not surprisingly either, I’m shopping for the moms in my life on Amazon now too.  I love that I can shop “last minute” and not look “last minute.”  And it’s not really last-minute either, for moms we should call these the “only minutes” because we don’t have a ton of time for doing these kinds of extra things in our busy lives.  Our lives are so busy that 10 years can simultaneously feel like a hundred years and a handful of minutes and I love that companies like Amazon Prime allow us moms and humans to get our things done and make our lives easier and give us more time with our families and for ourselves. I really can’t thank them enough or wait to hear what they think of next.

Wickedly Prime Snacks

Also, after going down the rabbit hole that is shopping on Amazon for the past few hours, I found some fun under $20 Mother’s Day gift ideas you can still probably get by the weekend with Amazon Prime unless they sell out:

For moms who are on the beach or spend time paddle boarding, this Joto brand Dry phone case looks like it would be great phone holder.

Who doesn’t need a Ban.do glittery cup with straw or anything else by this creative brand for that matter.  I like this luggage tag too!

For moms who dream of travel this Marble Passport cover might make a fabulous gift.

And I love the inspirational words on the “She’s a dreamer” pouch by sweet water decor

A unicorn in a spacesuit pin needs no explanation.

And I am buying this Par avion unicorn tears color changing tea because I need to see what color changing tea is like and lately I’ve been buying anything with the word Unicorn in it.

I don’t have a dog but these women’s corgi socks in emerald are too adorable and kind of make me want a dog too. And this panda stapler would make me want to do work so I could staple important things..

Last minute Mother's Day Gifts under $20 with amazon Prime

Do you have Amazon Prime?  And can you, like me remember the Dark Ages before this magical technology?  And do you have any wishes for Mother’s Day or are you looking for things for moms in your life too?

(PS. As stated above, I received some products at an event I was invited to by Amazon Prime but I was not expected to post and the ideas and the thoughts and viewpoints as always on this blog are mine.  I also get a small commission for items purchased in my Amazon store.)

(PPS. I’ve since been to a few Mom2 summits as well as a Real Simple Conference which was not for blogging but also very inspiring.)
