My family lives fairly close to Pike Place Market so it’s not just a touristy spot for us, it’s part of our lives. We often go there to shop or pick up food. And there are always new places popping up in Pike Place Market so every time we go it feels like there is something unique and different to try or see. I was so curious when I saw that a new store was opening next to Kitchen and Market (a market store we frequent a lot) and when I heard that Hellenika Cultured Creamery, a new place for frozen yogurt in Pike Place Market opened, I couldn’t wait to check it out.
Do you love frozen yogurt? I need to find all the other frozen yogurt places in Seattle now too!
When I was growing up there used to be a Yogen Fruz at our malls in Vancouver BC that we would go to for frozen yogurt. This kind of frozen yogurt is like a thick soft serve and you can add mix ins to make the flavor and someone makes it all for you. We also visited a soft serve frozen yogurt place recently in Santorini Greece called Solo Gelato (we went to Greece for a 10 day trip with our teenagers for Spring Break) and this was pretty similar to Yogen Fruz except the flavors were pre-made and you can add toppings and you serve yourself. For a while we had a Menchies in our Seattle neighborhood that was like the Solo Gelato place but it closed down in 2020 and we don’t have one near us anymore.
When I heard that there would be a new frozen yogurt place in the market, I imagined that Hellenika would be more like this soft serve style I knew. But the way the frozen yogurt at Hellenika Cultured Creamy is served is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Each yogurt is encased in a clear churning bubble dome and there are about a dozen bubble domes in the store and when you look closer you can see the yogurt being churned in each bubble. We chose the size and flavors we wanted and it was scooped for us like gelato is scooped. Hellenika Cultured Creamery is thick, creamy and rich and very tasty.
And we were asked if we wanted samples!
So many places we’ve been to lately aren’t offering samples anymore (like Casa Gelato in Vancouver BC) so I was surprised when we were offered multiple tastes of whatever we wanted to try. The flavors are unique-we liked one that was a Bananas Foster, an Earl Grey flavor and all the berry flavors we tried were delicious too.
This is the type of place I imagined we would find in Greece. We loved the yogurt we had for breakfast in the morning and there were a couple places in Athens that we thought we might get to but ran out of steps and time. But I’ve never seen frozen yogurt like this in the USA.
And you might really love this place if you miss Ellenos yogurt at Pike Place market too
What I have seen though is Ellenos Yogurt and that is just yogurt and you might be familiar with it because it’s at Costcos all over nowadays as well as in other grocery stores and I’ve heard this company is somewhat related to Hellenika but I’m not entirely sure what their relationship is. We used to love stopping by the Ellenos Yogurt stand in Pike Place Market (they were always so friendly, innovative with their flavors and generous with their samples too) so I’m really glad for Hellenika Cultured Creamery.
I’m looking forward to future visits and I am curious what other flavors we’ll see at this cool new Pike Place Market Store. Have you ever tried frozen yogurt?
(PS. at one point in time I used to volunteer at the Pike Place Market foundation and I was at Pike Place Market every week. I tried to eat out at every place in Pike Place Market but there were just too many but I still have the places I tried on this list)
