We stopped by my hometown for a little visit this weekend and I missed visiting my Jichan (grandpa), but he sent me some yummy sweets via my mom and I’m a very happy girl:
These are manju, a type of Japanese pastry that have a sweet bean in the middle. Eating them reminds me of sitting at my grandparents’ kitchen table as a young girl drinking green tea cooled with ice cubes. You can find manju in Seattle at Uwajimaya and Umai-Do and my favorites are the mochi manju and the Dorayaki (pancake) manju.
(So Jichan, I’m sorry I missed seeing you. I will be thinking of you often this week while I savor these treats and yes, I will try to share them with the rest of my family. Maybe.)
