Thank you artsy Seattle for cultivating my guys’ appreciation for sculptures. We can’t drive past this piece in the SAM Olympic Sculpture Park without both of them yelling “BIG ERASER!!!” at the top of their lungs.
Imagine their delight when they found out the Big Eraser has a twin. Yes, a twin. We found it near the Mandarin Oriental in Las Vegas. They were instantly mesmerized.
(PS. on further investigation, this piece called “The Typewriter” by Claes Oldenburg and Coosje van Bruggen, is actually a triplet and you can find a third in the Sculpture Garden in the National Gallery of Art in Washington DC. The Las Vegas one is the largest, of course, because everything is just over the top in Vegas.)
(PPS. The “Big Eraser” has moved in Seattle in 2016 and can now be found at Seattle Center.)
