My kids are starting to grow up a bit and the need for me to find a kid-friendly restaurant ASAP or a play area that’s not too crowded before nap-time is not dire anymore, but I get asked a lot from friends and family who are traveling with kids what they can do in Seattle. I also get a lot of emails from PR companies about what is happening in the city and I try to put my favorites on my monthly “things to do in Seattle this month” lists but these are not specifically geared for traveling to Seattle with kids. So here is where I would look if I need to find out what to do in Seattle today with kids:
Parentmap
This is such a great resource, not only for their fantastic calendar of events, but they have a good feel of the pulse of the city as well and they always know all the things to do in Seattle with kids. They even sponsor some events for families in Seattle to go to so it is a helpful page to check just in case there is something going on when you are visiting. They have summer camp fairs and preschool fairs to help Seattleites figure out how to best suit the needs of their children and they often have great articles for parents navigating the often overwhelming world of being the grownups in the house too.
Seattle’s Child
This is a hyper-local resource and I love their calendar too. They have great tips about where to eat in Seattle and I am thankful I’ve been asked to write a few articles for them too. I recently checked out the new WNDR museum on the waterfront and the guys and I tested as many Boba places as we could for a bubble tea story. I also enjoyed writing about local getaways too.
Tiny Beans
I definitely have a fondness for this publication that used to be Red Tricycle and they have a great calendar not only for Seattle but for Portland too. I like their twitter and instagram feeds because they often post fun quotes and memes about parenting that are very real.
Thrifty Northwest Mom
This site has saved me a ton of money because of their posts about awesome deals locally and nationally and their weekly weekend calendar is so helpful in the Pacific Northwest for finding inexpensive ways to keep a family entertained. I’ve also been following the Downtown Seattle Association’s Facebook Page and they have been posting a lot of fun and free activities lately for families in Seattle.
Where to eat in Seattle with kids
I have a list of Seattle kid-friendly restaurants on my blog as well. Many of them are the same restaurants we’ve been going to for years. Some of them have sadly closed and I’ve noted that on the site in hopes that someone remembers how good it was to have a Spaghetti Factory within bike-riding distance of our house or that Twirl Cafe was a brilliant place for kids so long ago and needs to be resurrected. Seattle is an ever-changing landscape. It’s the fastest growing big city in ALL of the United States and it is hard to keep up with all the new that keeps coming our way. I keep as up to date as I can on my Seattle Emerald City Life Instagram and of course if you’re headed to our city and need help, I always love an email.
