This should really be called “All about three places on the Taco Trail” in Oxnard California because we only got as far as three places before our bellies were too full to eat anything else. My family arrived in Oxnard on our trip with Visit Oxnard on an extremely rainy and unusually weatherful weekend and we were eating dinner at The Haven at Whitesails (more on this soon) and discussing what we should do the next day when I noticed one of my kids enjoying the tacos he ordered. This reminded me of the Taco Trail I’d read about on the Oxnard tourism website. Do you think you can eat at 15 taco places tomorrow? Should we try and conquer the Taco Trail?
The Haven at Whitesails in Oxnard
The Haven at Whitesails is a really cool restaurant in Oxnard and it is about 5 minutes away from where we were staying at Zachari Dunes on Mandalay Beach. When I saw the menu I knew we had to go because they have a prata and curry appetizer and this is something we’ve been missing from Singapore so much. (hopefully we’ll get back there again soon, it’s been way too long) I also ordered the famous drink they post on instagram. And it was really nice to see they have a variety of food options with many that are vegan was well. One of my guys had the chicken tacos and really enjoyed them and that’s what ultimately inspired us to try the Taco Trail.
We downloaded the Oxnard Taco Trail Pass and it has coupons too
Some of the places on the Taco Trail have coupons so those are the places we looked at first (there is also a restaurant pass you might want to check out too). We also thought we’d start with places that have take-out style ordering, this way we could order just a few tacos and not a whole meal. We only really had a day to do this taco trail so if you have more days in Oxnard it’s probably better. I knew we likely wouldn’t get to 15 places in one day but we do have teenage boys so I kept the possibility in the back of my mind. Teenage boys can eat a lot.
After we found a handful of places that we were curious about we plotted them out on a map. We searched nearby sightseeing places as well so we would have a little time to digest our tacos and maybe even get some exercise or at least some steps.
House of Tacos on the Oxnard Taco Trail
We stopped by Kiddie Beach Park and checked out the sea lions who have taken over the area. Then we headed to House of Tacos, our first stop on the Taco Trail. This place had a coupon for a free drink with our taco order in the Taco Trail Pass and we showed it when we ordered. We tried the horchata and it was delicious. We ate our tacos outside and there were lots of other things on the menu we were tempted to order too. The decor in this place was also really cool.
The Taco Shop in Oxnard
The 2nd place we stopped at was the Taco Shop in Oxnard. This place also had two types of flans that were really beckoning to us too. The tacos here were really delicious and we ate them in our car along with the flan. We headed from this taco stop to explore Oxnard Heritage Square. (The day we visited it was a holiday and rainy so everything was empty and closed we checked this area out from our car window and realized it would be 1000 times better on any other day but still glad we took a peek.)
La Gloria Market
The third place La Gloria Market had its own bakery and I think it was attached to a grocery store too. We wanted to buy all the things here but by this time our tummies were bursting. We had a lot of salsas from the first stop so we bought some freshly made chips here too so we could finish them up. This place ended up having our favorite tacos. It was a bit rainy when we visited but we noticed a really cute courtyard that would have been perfect on a sunnier day. And this was close to where you can find the “Greetings from Oxnard Mural”.
By the time we got to La Gloria Market we realized we were the ones who were conquered by the Oxnard Taco Trail-it would be impossible to eat anymore but we were also extremely content. This was such a unique way to explore the area and we’ll try to finish where we left off the next time we visit. Do you love tacos as much as we do?
