If your toddler dreamed up the perfect lunch, this would be it. Grilled cheese…on a bus. The Grilled Cheese Grill in Northeast Portland has seating on their patio or in their delightfully renovated school bus where you can munch your five dollar “Southsider”(Artichokes, Sundried Tomato, Mushrooms and Mozzarella on Sourdough) while your toddler chows down on their own grilled cheese (this comes with one extra –try the pickles) and you can share a “Jaime”(Marscapone, Nutella, and Grilled Banana on Cinnamon Bread) to finish. Trust me, The Grilled Cheese Grill’s sandwiches are sublime. My appetite was satiated and my toddlers were thrilled that we drove all the way from Seattle to eat on a BUS! They could have opened and closed the bus door for hours. I ate my meal in peace. Wait till I tell them there’s a new Double Decker Grilled Cheese Grill opening next month. Friend the GCG on Facebook for more details.
Know Before you Go: This is a foodstand not a sit-down restaurant. There is no bathroom on site so plan your trip accordingly. I strolled over to the coffee shop next door (please-it was a 3+ hour drive) and they had lovely washrooms and yummy coffee too.
PPS. The Grilled Cheese Grill offers wheat-free bread and many vegetarian options too. As always, check the menu before you go to make sure things haven’t updated or changed.
