I happen to be the type of person who could probably kill plants just by looking at them, but every year I like to visit the Northwest Flower and Garden show and pretend that I could possibly be a garden whisperer and this keeps me totally happy all spring. This Northwest flower show is absolutely spectacular and this year it runs from February 14-18th in Seattle. I can’t believe how many over the top flower displays fit into the convention center and because of the dates this could even work as a last minute Valentine’s Day gift for someone special who loves flowers or gardens. I will be attending as media and just saw a preview of this year’s show this morning and I’m looking forward to visiting later this week with my mom.
I am always amazed at how this show transforms the Seattle Convention Center into a floral paradise-the displays are all constructed within 72 hours. There are also daily seminars and workshops and If you’re into specific garden ideas and local garden celebrities the list of speakers is here so you can make a plan for when you want to attend. And University Bookstore will be selling books (I love this too) and the list of when authors will be signing their books is also online here so you can plan before you go if this is important to you too.
Can Kids come to the Northwest Flower and Garden Show in Seattle?
I used to bring the guys with me to this show because it’s neat to see the gardens and kids 12 and under are free. One of my guys is especially into gardening and takes care of all of our indoor plants and has been taking care of them since he was very small. This year there is a kid’s “treasure” hunt at the Northwest Flower and Garden show so this is probably something I would have told them about back then and the reward is pretty cool so if you have kids you’ll want to check it out. This year I don’t think I’ll be bringing my guys because their week is extremely busy but I’ll definitely be bringing my mom who is a master gardener and she’s who I always call to talk about my plants.
Blooms and Bubbles
Blooms and Bubbles is a new feature at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show and I’m excited to go to one of these with my mom-they are hands on workshops where you actually get to make something and take it home too. I think we’re doing some kind of flower arranging together. And I wish I could go to the opening night-this looks fantastic. But I will be doing something a lot less glamorous (but still a bit dear to me)-I promised I’d drive my guys to soccer. They have tryouts this week so it’s a big week in our house with all of that too.
Where to get discount tickets to the Northwest Flower and Garden show
If you know you’re going to go to the Northwest Flower and Garden show you can buy early bird tickets at various local nurseries in the area. There is a map of the nurseries that are participating. You might call ahead to see if they still have tickets before you go because quantities are usually limited.
