Family trips are more than just booking an accommodation somewhere that is not your home and magically arriving there instantly. The journey often starts way before the trip begins and with kids so much of the journey depends on the snacks that we bring. One of my kids’ favorite snacks are apple sauce pouches- they’ve loved these pouches since they were little and they still look forward to the them on trips. We recently traveled to North Carolina and I traveled alone on the plane with my kids for the first time. On our Alaska Airline’s flight, I bought the kids’ choice picnic pack and guess what was in it? A Tree Top strawberry apple sauce pouch. The kids were totally thrilled.
I love that Tree Top has made the first transparent apple sauce pouch. I like being able to see what my kids are eating and I think this would have been even more appealing to me when my kids were smaller because I was so careful about what foods I was giving them back then. Nowadays, I’m glad when I can get more fruit into my growing guys, so these still feel like a really great snack. I like that Tree Top apple sauce pouches are also easy to eat on road trips and they tend to be a clean treat-when the kids are finished they just seal up the lid and the car stays clean.
Tree Top sent me some pouches to bring on our recent trip to Oregon. We were staying in Pacific City on the Oregon Coast and it is a longer drive than where we usually stay on Cannon Beach (about 4 and a half hours without traffic) and we headed out from Seattle on a busy Friday. I’m not sure if we should have waited out the traffic or left earlier in the day but it took us nearly an hour and a half to get out of Seattle and on our way. Thankfully we brought our Nintendo Switch for the kids and they brought a few books to read-they are currently devouring the Warriors series. On long road trips we like to play car games too. One silly one we like is where we all choose a letter and then we look at license plates that pass our car to try and spot everyone else’s chosen letter. The last letter to be spotted wins. We also usually make a road trip playlist, except on our Oregon trip we didn’t have enough time to make a playlist after coming back from North Carolina, so we had to use that one. (If you’re curious, Sweet Caroline and Oh Carolina were on that list.)
Because trips are always unpredictable we ended up bringing some of our road trip snacks even further than we though we would. In Pacific City we stayed at the Headlands Coastal Lodge and there was a giant sand dune nearby. We had heard about this sand dune but didn’t really know what to expect. It was HUMONGOUS and the most glorious place to play if you are like us and could spend the whole day on the beach. We walked from our hotel and carried a bunch of our things up to the top of the hill and frolicked on the dune all day. It was nice to have a refreshing snack at the top of the biggest sand castle we’ve ever climbed.
Are snacks a big part of your road trips? And do you have any road trips planned for summer? Have you been to the Oregon Coast? I’d love to hear all about it!

(PPS. my guys’ current favorite flavor is the Strawberry Apple Sauce.)

Oh cool! I grew up on Tree Top and I didn’t know they made pouches! So convenient!
The pouches are so awesome! I also buy the fruit snacks at Costco all the time.
