We were at the part of 2020 where I needed to replace a rug we’ve had for a long time VERY quickly because we got a new puppy (did you get a new puppy too?) and the puppy decided he liked to roll around in the rug and it made the rug shed everywhere. We debated getting rid of the rug altogether for a while but I read about a Ruggable rug that was machine washable and that seemed like the perfect rug for someone with a new puppy.
So instead of waiting or doing much research I asked on instagram and people told me how much they loved their Ruggable rug. They appreciated that they could wash it and many said it easy to care for too. The only negative I heard was that it was thin and that the edges sometimes rolled up. I went through a couple choices that I wanted and then my whole family vetoed all my choices and then I gave up and ordered the one the three of them could agree on because I didn’t waste too much time thinking about it.
When our ruggable arrived I realized that it might be a little too big (I should have measured) and the pattern wasn’t exactly what I wanted, but I still liked it enough and there is a 30 day no-pet dander return policy. I think it probably says that you shouldn’t wash it either if you want to return it but I didn’t get that far in the policy before I realized I didn’t do the biggest part of research that I needed to do before I bought a rug.
I didn’t realize that between 4 and 8 months my puppy will be teething and chewing on EVERYTHING. And little Scout our Yorkie Poo pup was nearly exactly 4 months old when the Ruggable arrived. And as he helped roll the rug out with the boys in the house, Scout who only used to roll around on the rug we used to have suddenly became very aware of our new Ruggable rug.
Within the first hour of having our new Ruggable rug, our little pup chewed all the edges and made it a permanent fixture in our living room. And I guess this is the best part about having this Ruggable rug. I love that if he destroys this rug in the next 5ish months of teething I can just buy a new overlay and it won’t be as expensive as if I had to replace a whole new rug.
And the thinness of the Ruggable?
Someone asked me about how thin the Ruggable is and it is true that it isn’t plush or fluffy. It’s more like a type of mat that you might put in your kitchen maybe, but I really like that I don’t really notice it under me when I sit on it like I did the rug I used to have. It doesn’t shed and it seems like it will hold up okay with my kids and eventually when he is not teething it will be a good rug for my pup too. I thought maybe it felt like an outdoor rug, but now I’ve noticed that Ruggable has outdoor rugs too, so that theory is blown.
And washing the Ruggable?
When I think of how many times I cleaned my other rug over the years I had it, I’m not about to go and wash this Ruggable anytime soon. But we are potty training our pup and if he makes a mistake, I will let you know how washing the rug goes. (And if you have been reading and are curious about the status of our washing machine and dryer, we are still somewhere between the drama of trying to get our new dryer fixed and just being thankful that we currently have something that dries our clothes.)
Do you have a Ruggable? And if you have a pattern that you absolutely love, please let me know below.
