If you have seen foodie social media in Seattle lately it’s blown up with Treat cookies. And while Treat isn’t exactly a Seattle cookie company-it’s in Burien in Seattle’s Southside about a 30 minute drive away- it’s in an area that you definitely want to check out if you are the type of person who looks up cookie stores in Seattle anyways. Bakery Nouveau and Grand Central Bakery are also within a walkable distance if you want to combine all three to make a pastry tour. And if you want to add non-bakery elements to your trip Paper Delights and Sitka Living are both nearby.

Chelsea, owner of Treat Cookies in Burien near Seattle

I was invited to check out Treat Cookies the day before its Grand Opening and I was excited to see that it was just as cute in real life as it is on social media. (And isn’t that so important these days?) The owner Chelsey is kind-hearted and easy to talk to and I love when people who own places like this are friendly and fun. She gave me a sampling of cookies to try at home and after tasting them, I can see why so many people are excited about this place-the cookies she makes are as dense, delightful and delicious as good cookies should be. I think my favorite so far is a strawberry cream cookie and it paired really well with my afternoon latte. There is one with lucky charms on top that would make a fun cookie gift too.

Cow Chip cookies is one of the Seattle original cookie stores. It used to be in Pioneer Square (for 34 years!) but now if you are looking for these cookies, you need to go to Redmond or Kent. I haven’t had one in ages, and I remember them being more of a traditional chocolate chip type but they used to be a favorite when we wandered the area more and if they were really started in 1883 like it says on their website, then this might be Seattle’s oldest cookie as well.

And another more ‘heritage’ cookie store in Seattle is Cinnamon Works in Pike Place Market. They have been at the market since 1983 and yes they sell other things but they are also known for their giant cookies that weigh a 1/2 a pound each. They also have gluten-free cookies here and their flavors are listed on their website. It always smells so good when I walk by their store in the market.

DeLaurenti in Pike Place Market is a place that sells a lot of other things besides cookies but it has my all time favorite chocolate chip cookie here. Make sure you check out this amazing food and wine shop that has been around since 1946 if you head here for your cookies too. Their chocolate selection is incredible-I found Omnom chocolates here after we bought some in Iceland as souvenirs and I spotted Dick Taylor chocolates before I saw them anywhere else in Seattle. In pre-2020 times, I used to order a cookie, salad and bubbly water and sit in their upstairs area and enjoy a peaceful 30 minute lunch to myself amidst the hustle and bustle that is Pike Place Market during cruise ship season.

My husband’s favorite cookie comes from Met Market, a Seattle-based grocery chain. “The cookie” from Met Market is so popular that they make about 1500 a day and according to their website in about 5 days that would be enough cookies to stack up to be the same height as the Space Needle. I thought I would have at least one photo of one of these cookies somewhere in my photo vault but apparently we always eat these way too quickly to be actually photographed.

And a few other Seattle cookies you need to know about

Gelatiamo is not a stand alone cookie store either and is probably more known for their gelato but they also have a bakery and their jam cookies with little faces on them are really dreamy. They’re the closest thing I’ve tasted to a cookie with sprinkles and jam at another Italian bakery that I love in Port Moody BC Canada called Casa Del Pane if you’re ever in that area too.

And Bell’s Cookies in Seattle popped up in our city in the last year or so. One morning I opened my door and found the sweetest box of them on my porch from a friend. This is one of the loveliest things to find on your doorstep and they were even still warm. My whole family gobbled them up-Bell’s cookies are delicious.

As for decorated cookies, I have one favorite in the city so far and it’s Jenny Cookies. I love the idea of decorated cookies but they need to both taste nice and look nice and I think this is a really tricky combination. I first tried Jenny Cookies at an event for a cool Australian store that has since closed and I was surprised to find that these decorated cookies were soft and flavorful. I’m also pretty particular about icing on decorated cookies. I like when things are decorated but I am not a fan when the colors change the taste of the icing or make my whole mouth change color. Jenny Cookies seem to take this into consideration and I’ve had them a few times now and have also bought them for friends. These cookies are absolutely lovely.

Street Treats is one more Seattle Cookie company that has been around along time and it has a food truck that can even travel to you. These cookies are the best with ice cream in between them and I love their Snickerdoodle cookies. We first ordered Street Treats for a party ages and ages ago and I buy their Olivia’s Ice Cream Cookie Bites at Met Market.

Finally Hello Robin is another place where I like to buy cookies for friends and family. These cookies are reliably delicious and the store is so cute.(Now stores: they just opened up in University Village and the original Hello Robin is in Capitol Hill). The Mackles’more is one of the more unique cookies I’ve seen and there is usually a current seasonal flavor.

And yes, there are more cookie stores in the area that I haven’t yet mentioned like Crumbl (a more national cookie chain that is now in Covington) and Lowrider Cookie Company and Midnight Cookies. I will do more diligent research and get back to you after I’ve tried these out.

Are you a fan of cookies? And if so, what is your favorite cookie shop and is it in Seattle?
