Seattle Southside revisited at the Hotel Interurban in Tukwila with the Do More Save More Passport

Spread the love

A few years ago my family was invited to stay at the Embassy Suites in Tukwila. We had a crazy soccer weekend with back to back games in a tournament. We live in Seattle but it’s still a drive to the Southside and I wouldn’t have thought to stay in a hotel but it ended up making the tournament more of a staycation than a crazy commute. Staying near Starfire Sports allowed us some fun family time together on a weekend that would have felt a little more hectic and we’ve tried to incorporate this idea more and more as our kids’ schedules get busier. And then recently I was invited to visit the Seattle Southside again-this time with a group of 5 other writers for a couple nights to stay at the Hotel Interurban and see all the new things in the area.

Because the kids are older now, I have been doing more travel on my own and the hubby and I have started to go on a few trips again just the two of us too. I miss the days when we could all up and go together, but the kids are starting to create lives of their own and it’s also nice to revisit who I am. I’m finding these “solo travel in a group trips” so empowering. I also love revisiting places I’ve enjoyed solo with friends and family after I come back because I want to share the experience with them too.

The Hotel Interurban in Tukwila

On my trip with the Seattle Southside, I stayed at the Hotel Interurban, a relatively new hotel based right next to Westfield Southcenter mall in Tukwila. This hotel has a cool, urban vibe and you feel it the minute you enter the lobby. Rooms are comfortable and ultra-modern. I really liked the comfy leather chair in front of the window and the bath salts included with the typical shampoo/conditioner/body lotion set were a thoughtful touch. I am not a fan of barn doors on bathrooms-especially when sharing a room with others, but I get that it’s trendy to do this lately. I was so thankful for the bathtub because that’s always something I think of as a luxurious part of a hotel stay and more and more hotels are getting rid of them. I had a very comfortable stay at the Hotel Interurban and I think it would make a good home base for people wanting to explore the area. Rates here seem lower than downtown Seattle hotels too for an equally comfortable space.

For someone flying out of Seatac, this is also a good place to start a trip-there are often deals at the Hotel Interurban for guests who want to Park and Fly and there is a shuttle that can take you to the airport.

The biggest reason I was excited to stay at the Hotel Interurban was because I had heard about Hazel the Robot. And sure enough, if you want something brought to your hotel room you can call and ask for Hazel the Robot to bring it to your room. I didn’t really need anything so I tried to get her to bring coffee one morning, but open liquids aren’t totally feasible. I ended up ordering a couple extra shampoo bottles and sure enough Hazel the Robot called me on my room phone and told me to answer the door. I’ve never had a robot deliver me anything and everyone says this is the future. I wish my kids could have been there to see Hazel the Robot stop by and I think other kids would find this fun too.

Do More Save More Passport for Seattle Southside saves money at Southcenter and Seatac airport area hotels. Save money at Hotel Interurban in Tukwila too

Do More Save More Passport in the Seattle Southside

If you want to save money for free when you shop at places in the Seattle Southside, you want to sign up for the Do More Save More Passport. I tapped through when I was doing some research on some of the places we visited on my media tour and signed up because it was free to join. When I checked, the Do More Save More Passport had deals like 10% off retail purchases at the Seattle Chocolates Factory. (We took a tour there and it was really fun!)

You can even save at the Hotel Interurban with the Do More Save More Passport-I saw 20% off the best available rate with parking and there is a coupon for $10 off $50 at the Waterleaf restaurant inside the Hotel Interurban too. Right across the street at Southcenter Mall you can use the Do More Save More Passport to get free churros with your meal at Moctezumas.

PS. the Hotel Interurban has a pool

Just in case this is a dealbreaker when you choose a hotel for your family you can be rest assured that the Hotel Interurban has a pool. I didn’t actually check it out because I was not there with kids, and I am not a fan of going to the pool but it’s on the main floor across from a small workout center. I think if I went to this hotel with kids, I would choose a suite for a little more room, and then between the robot and the pool they would be totally set.

And did I mention that the Southcenter Mall is just a short walk away?

I used to work in the area and can’t believe the metropolis that the South Center Mall has become. There are so many stores and restaurants and the mall here always feels vibrant and busy. I like the pastries at the 85 degrees bakery and walking to the Southcenter Mall feels like it makes a little extra room for pastries and a rose petal tea. The Odin Brewing Company is also on the route between the Southcenter Mall and the Hotel Interurban.

And if you go outside and smell a heavenly doughnut smell?

Rumor has it that the Top Pot Doughnut factory is *thisclose* to the Hotel Interurban but don’t try and pop in to the factory or show up as I don’t think it is open to the public, but maybe one day they’ll do tours….. (I’m always hopeful for a factory tour.) If your heart is set on obtaining one, there are Top Pot doughnuts at the Hotel Interurban continental buffet breakfast and you can get them in the coffee shop in the hotel as well.

(PS. as stated before I was a guest of Seattle Southside on this trip and as always my opinions on this blog are my own.)

  1. Sounds like a great location and the extras are very appealing – not least the robot! Although it’s lovely to get away from the kids sometimes, it’s a shame they missed that one!
