I love being anywhere near the Skagit Valley. It feels good to know where your food comes from and so much of our local produce is grown in this area. There are always new things to see here and people seem so happy in this area. So when I was asked if I wanted to try out the new Airstream Travel Trailers being offered at the Angel of the Winds RV resort in Arlington, WA, the invite totally piqued my interest. This area is about 90 minutes from my home in Seattle (accounting ample time for traffic etc) and staying close by would leave me more energy to visit more farms. I immediately messaged back a “YES!”
And originally I thought maybe my husband might come or my teenagers but summer is busy these days and they have work and internships and someone needed to stay home to take care of Scout. So I messaged a friend of mine who also has an extremely busy family life and asked fully expecting a no “Is there any chance you might be able to meet me midway between your house and mine for a quick little getaway?”
But she said yes!
Isn’t it funny how the best adventures begin?
We arrived at 4pm (after meeting at the Seattle Premium Outlets to shop-she drove from Vancouver and I came from Seattle) for check-in at the big clubhouse at the front of the RV resort. This resort also has a handful of luxury yurts and lots of spaces for people who own RV’s who come to vacation here too and we spotted quite a few ginormous fancy rigs. The clubhouse area is very beautifully constructed with a giant room with a tv and games and pool. This would also be a great space if you came here with a few family groups and need a big space to hang out. The pool was very popular when we visited but did not seem overly crowded because one end of the pool building also opened up and it was nice to see people enjoying time with their families in the sun. There is also a workout room that looks like it has fancy equipment but we did not use this on this trip. The RV resort also has pickleball and a small mini golf area too.
The kitchen in the Airstream was well stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. There was a bed in the back of the airstream and extra bedding for the kitchen table that also converted into a place to sleep. The shower and toilet are in separate compartments and were functional but not roomy. We didn’t check them out but apparently there are also extra showers and toilets as well as laundry facilities a not too far a walk away from the airstreams. Our space felt comfortable and I was impressed with how well stocked our trailer was with toilet paper and paper towel.
During our time at the resort we visited local farmstands and then chatted for hours eating snacks at the table in our airstream while enjoying the air-conditioning on a hot day. We also went to the nearby Costco and found the 80’s Esprit shirts that are making a comeback. We were hosted for dinner at the Angel of the Winds Casino and had a pretty delicious meal at Vento Italian Restaurant.
I guess the coolest part of the whole trip is that we had time to catch up and chat like we did back in university. And as we get older we need this kind of thing so much! We also met the nicest people along our adventure. We stopped at Breadfarm in Bow (I was curious about their new ice cream offerings and I also can’t leave the area without picking up a loaf of bread) and someone there gave a recommendation for Christianson’s nursery and it turned out to be such a stunning spot. We ended up spending nearly an hour wandering around the grounds and checking out the shop. We grabbed lunch at Skagit Valley Coop (they have the best sandwiches!) and someone came up to us and chatted about friendship because she thought we clearly have known each other a very long time. And then the next day, after my friend went home I happened upon a lavender farm five minutes from where we stayed and two friends of 45 years there asked me to take their picture because they were on a trip catching up together for the first time in a while (and one of the friends had the SAME NAME as my friend too!)
So I’m thankful that the universe thought we needed to check out the Airstream trailers at the Angel of the Winds RV resort because I don’t think I would have found them on my own. And maybe now that you know about these trailers and you’ve read this far, I’m hoping you might get inspired for an adventure of your own maybe too.
