A little while ago I booked a staycation for my family and my sister’s family so all the cousins could hang out at a heated outdoor pool in the wintertime. Because of covid, I specifically wanted to find an outdoor pool so that we wouldn’t have to breathe indoor air. And we love the outdoor pool at the Four Seasons in Whistler but this was a little farther than we wanted to drive on this visit. So I found a deal on my American Express Card for the Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver BC. I always forget to check this card for their travel deals but with some Amex bookings hotels include breakfast and other amenities like late-checkout and even credit to the hotel restaurants so this can be a great way to get a fabulous stay at a hotel.
So what room should you pick at the Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver?
I have never stayed at the Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver but I was really intrigued by the Terrace rooms at this hotel because they seemed unlike most regular hotel rooms. I read that they open right out onto a Terrace Garden and can easily access the pool. And the Terrace Garden is pretty big and about 3 floors up from street level. It was interesting that while the rest of the hotel is dog-friendly, we could not book a Terrace Room here with a dog. Thankfully my parents are in Vancouver (along with all of our family) so Scout was able to have along time with Grandpa and Grandma which he loved.
We couldn’t check in early to our room either (because there are only a limited number of these rooms-I think maybe 8) but we were guaranteed late check out at 4 pm with our rate. And my sister and I had almost side by side rooms with our families so it was a pretty awesome setup. The Terrace Room ended up being such an easy way to get the kids to the pool-we could exit from our outside doors and walk quickly to the pool without walking through indoor hallways or taking an elevator. Because it was so easy to get to the pool we went multiple times during our short stay. It was also neat to be able to stroll around the garden-we were here in November and I think this would be so pretty in summer.
And the pool was the closest thing to feeling like we were in Hawaii even though it was freezing and rained a little while we were in the pool. The pool was warm and the palm trees and other plants around it and the views made it feel like we were far away on a holiday instead of just on a staycation.
And Room service at the Fairmont Waterfront is pretty awesome too
We’ve tried room service at many hotels in the past years because of covid and have not always been impressed. I love the idea of being able to eat a really nice meal with a nice view in a hotel room especially when it feels like we can’t eat out safely in a restaurant. But we’ve had a few where we would have had a nicer more inexpensive experience had we just gotten takeout. Our meals at the Fairmont Waterfront Vancouver were tasty and beautifully prepared. It felt like a really nice way to eat with our families and on real plates with silverware.
Because vaccination records were being checked and covid numbers were lower at the time we visited, we did eat in one restaurant-Joe Fortes on Robson and we grabbed some aburi sushi from Miku across the street from our hotel too. We picked up dessert macarons at Laduree after we finished the delicious ones left in our room from the hotel as well. And instead of getting fancy breakfast drinks we took out hot chocolate from Tim Horton’s nearby.
Thanks to our late checkout, our stay at this hotel felt very luxuriously long and one night felt almost like a whole weekend. This was a great way to spend time with family and I’m really glad we tried the Terrace Hotel Rooms here.
