This is sponsored post on behalf of Waterfront Seattle to help with the new Seattle waterfront playground design on Pier 58 and as always the thoughts and ideas in this post are my own.
Have you been to Seattle’s Waterfront lately? It feels like ever since the infamous viaduct came down the whole area has been all abuzz with new things popping up everyday. Now there is going to be a new Seattle waterfront playground built on Pier 58 and you and your kids can get involved in helping the design by taking this survey (and taking a peek at some of the really cool playground designs) by January 24th 2021. We have spent a lot of time in this area (especially when our kids were little) and having a new Seattle waterfront playground here is exciting.
When does this all begin at Pier 58?
Pier 58 construction is anticipated to begin in 2022 and it is being redesigned with families and young children at the forefront. This means there will be a playground as well as places to relax and take in the scenery and a public plaza programmed by Friends of Waterfront and the Parks Department for the community.
Waterfront Seattle is using an online survey to collect public opinion on three playground concept designs until January 24th. The survey is available in English, Simplified Chinese, Spanish and Somali.
What else can Seattleites expect with the newly redesigned pier?
Pier 58 will be a “Waterfront for All” with improved access and space for the community to enjoy the breathtaking views. There will be an elevated seating area and lawn space. The Fitzgerald Fountain that many Seattleites have taken pictures in front of near the Aquarium will be integrated into the new pier design too. There will be a restroom and concierge space as well as a plaza and event space. You can find more information about the designs and updates on the website.
And where can we go while we wait for Pier 58 to be completed?
I took the pictures for this post on nearby Pier 62 that reopened in September 2020. There is so much cool stuff happening on this pier as well. Right now there is a gorgeous light filled art display called Artifacts from Utopia made by two former students from Garfield High School that will be on view until January 31st.
We often combine our trips along the water with a stop to Pike Place Market to pick up takeout or meal ingredients or to Red Robin or Ivars. We can’t wait for the Seattle Aquarium to open again too, they have such amazing programming for kids.
There is so much going on at the Seattle Waterfront and Pier 58 right now and if you are interested in learning more or getting involved I hope you check out the Playground survey and www.waterfrontseattle.org too
