Spread the love

The Seattle Art Museum is one of my favorite places in the city. If I know I’m running errands downtown or at Pike Place Market, I love having a membership so I can pop in even just for a few minutes if that’s all the time I have.

But there is another fabulous reason to get a Seattle Art Museum Patron Membership if you also travel too

And this is specifically a Seattle Art Museum Patron Membership. This one has reciprocal membership to 28 museums in the United States meaning that admission to these museums is also free when you show your SAM Patron Membership card. Because this year we are heading to New York City, I checked and this also includes the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

And you can use it in Whistler!

We also love to go to Whistler near Vancouver in Canada, so it’s cool that Audain Museum is also on the reciprocal list as well. (This is my niece and nephew’s favorite museum too.). This museum is worth visiting even just for its architecture and it is so cool you can get in free if you have a Seattle Art Museum Patron Membership

And what to see at the Seattle Art Museum?

I always love checking out the new featured exhibits but even when there is not a visiting exhibit at the SAM there are still lots of things to see. My favorite two paintings and my favorite sculpture are actually on the ground floor of the museum-there is a portrait by Kehinde Wiley, a giant tree sculpture by John Grade, and a painting called Leaves by Gloria Tamerr Petyarre . And there is a really cool porcelain room on one of the upper floors that feels so fragile it’s a little terrifying but also so beautiful to see.

Membership to the Seattle Art Museum also includes membership to the Seattle Asian Art Museum so you really get two museums for the price of one and they are both such cool places in our beautiful city. And it’s really awesome to be able to support art in our city by getting a museum membership as well.

Also a new bubble tea shop just opened up a few steps away from the SAM and Pike Place Market and Target are also very closeby too. It’s awesome to have a museum in the heart of our city so we can easily make art an everyday part of our lives.
