How many of us dreamed we’d be shoveling snow in Seattle in March? I think most of us have our fingers crossed that we won’t have to but after the weekend snow we got here it feels like there’s a chance. March in Seattle feels like it’s when our city starts to collectively wake up from our winter nap. We get friendlier. The blossoms are out. We have soccer again….
SO what to do in Seattle in March?
Designing Motherhood (March -December 2023 check the opening times in the website before you go)
Designing Motherhood just opened at the Gates Discovery Center and every Seattleite should probably go. It’s all about birth, and there are 200 objects related to birth and we all products of birth. And birth has become a big deal in this country….
Friends’ Experience
The Friends’ experience is in our city until April. If you are a fan of the show, this is a fantastic exhibition. Expect to spend an hour or two and bring a battery to make sure your phone cam is topped up.
Irish Festival at Seattle Center March 11th & 12th
We went to Ireland for 5 days during Thanksgiving last year and completely fell in love so the Irish Festival at Seattle Center is on our radar too. Dublin is also one of many places you can get to with a direct flight from Seattle.
Dear Evan Hansen at the Paramount Theatre (March 7-12)
I brought my guys to Evan Hansen and here is my review. This musical seems like it will really speak to the heart of many of us and especially teenage boys. I am finding that my guys really like attending musicals and plays with me and this one prompted a lot of discussion in the car on the way home. (Also if you bring 4 people you can get 25% off-these are me+3 4-packs.)
Hidden Worlds: the Films of Laika at MOPOP through summer 2024
You have a long time to see this new exhibition at MOPOP but it also is fun to see something when it’s fresh: if you watched Coraline or maybe Boxtrolls or Kubo and the Two Strings you might want to learn more about Laika studios (a northwest based film company) and stop motion films. This world premiere exhibition is intricate and entertaining even if you don’t know the movies too well.
Macaron Day in Seattle March 20
Not Macaroon Day but Macaron Day at Le Panier in Pike Place Market (not Pike’s Place Market). It happens every year and it looks like it’s happening in 2023 too and that’s reason enough to celebrate and join in.
Cherry Blossoms in the City
Keep an eye on the UW blog for news about the cherry blossoms: last year they started about a week before the April 1st blog came out. Bakery Nouveau has a sakura cake on its menu and I’ll definitely be looking out for cherry blossom themed foods around the city this year.
If you have any tips or events that you think I should include for March or beyond please let me know. I ry to curate a few events that I know I’ll be attending or that I wish I could go to-we all only have so much time.
And if you are looking for things to do next month, you can check out my Things to do in April in Seattle here too.
