A bunny cafe in Vancouver BC worth the drive from Seattle

Spread the love

Are you somebunny who loves little rabbits? We actually didn’t try the coffee in this cafe, but I took my niece and nephew to the Bunny Cafe in Vancouver BC and there were bunnies galore. The Bunny Cafe is on Commercial drive, a vibrant street full of shops and cafes and I found it when I was looking for an afternoon tea type of activity to celebrate my favorite little duo for their birthday. The coolest thing about the Bunny Cafe is that all the furry friends here are adoptable and this is actually a rabbit rescue.

Make sure you check ahead to see if you need a reservation at the Bunny Cafe

Like so many things post-pandemic, this is a place that needs reservations to make sure you get a spot. I booked about a week ahead for a 55 minute time slot. Kids need to be at least 5 years old and 5-10 years old need an adult present. We each were given a little cup of vegetables for the bunnies and we went through ours pretty quickly and thankfully were able to purchase one more cup of vegetables each.

And how were the bunnies?

The cafe felt pretty clean-we were instructed to wash our hands before and after we played with the bunnies. We might have eaten there except the neighborhood is full of other places we love. The food part of the cafe is also separate from where the bunny area is so human food stuff doesn’t get mixed with the bunnies and bunny stuff doesn’t get mixed in with the human food.

There were about 20 bunnies in total and some of them roamed freely in the main bunny area and others were in little penned off areas where we could enter and hang out with them too. We were told stories about where some of the bunnies were rescued from (Stanley and Parker were found in a box in Stanley Park) and we were told how to pet the bunnies gently.

Coffee and treats near the Bunny Cafe in Vancouver

My original idea was to drive to Nemesis coffee for lunch after our bunny visit-it’s only about 5 minutes away by car and I love the location that looks like a ginormous red spider-like building. But this neighborhood is so cool that if you get street parking, and it’s a sunny day, it’s so much better to walk around and find other yummy things.

Here are a few of my food ideas nearby the Bunny Cafe:

La Casa Gelato: check the opening time for this place-last I checked it was 1pm so we were early when we arrived and walked over to Fujiya to pass time. We used to come here and try all the flavors but they don’t do samples anymore. It’s still fun to see so many gelato choices in one spot and they have unusual flavors for adventurous tastes. This place is only a short walk away from the Bunny Cafe but also has its own parking lot.

Livia Forno e Vino: this is about a 10 minute walk away from the Bunny Cafe and it is like the most perfect European cafe with delicious pastries, yummy foods and drinks of all sorts.

Famoso Pizza: this one is great with kids and with grownups too-they serve Neapolitan pizza and often has reasonably priced specials. This one is a Canadian chain with a few other locations in BC as well.

Moja Coffee: this is also about a five minute walk away from the Bunny Cafe and there is good coffee and treats here too. This is where I first tried the famous Lemon Square.

Fujiya Japanese Grocery: you can pick up sushi and other ready-to-eat Japanese foods at this grocery store if you want to grab an easy meal for a picnic or to bring to your home or hotel. My family grew up going here after Japanese School on the weekends and I used to look forward to picking out a lunch bento. My rule as a grownup is that you also get to buy one treat if you go in this store.

How far is the Bunny Cafe in Vancouver from Seattle?

The Bunny Cafe in Vancouver is about a 3 hour drive from Seattle by the time you factor in a regular border stop (it could be longer or shorter depending on traffic but about 3 hours is usual). This might be a good time to check your passport for its expiry date if you haven’t in a while too. If you are looking for other Vancouver ideas I have a few in this post as well as this one too. I’ve also started to compile my Vancouver travel ideas into this list.
