Somehow we’ve made chocolate touring part of our daily adventures and travels. In Seattle we are lucky enough to have at least a handful of incredible chocolate factories near enough to visit. And we’ve looked for chocolate factories in Ireland, in Hawaii (it seems like every coffee farm in Hawaii is growing chocolate now!) and long ago we went to a chocolate farm in Costa Rica but I’m not certain this one is still around. So of course on our Nashville trip we looked for Nashville chocolate factories and sure enough we found a few to visit and this made renting a car on our trip even more worth it as well.
Goo Goo Chocolate Company
The easiest chocolate factory to get to if you are looking for Nashville Chocolate Factories is probably Goo Goo Chocolate Company because it’s just off Broadway near the Patsy Cline Museum in downtown Nashville. I think we’ve seen these chocolates in Seattle before and you will see a lot of them in the Nashville airport or in gift stores of local hotels there too. But if you book ahead (under the “experiences” tab on the website) you can even make your own Goo Goo Clusters at the store. We didn’t book ahead but we were also able to sort of create our own souvenir Goo Goo Clusters-there are machines where you can customize your own and have someone make them for you. These were ready in about 15 minutes and we have been eating them since we’ve gotten home with our weekly Ted Lasso viewing nights and rating whose creation in the family is the best. (This is our favorite type of souvenir-it also makes us reminisce about our trip)
Colts Chocolates
Colts Chocolates was a Nashville chocolate factory off the beaten path and we showed up on a day they weren’t having tours. There was no one in the front of the store so I kind of got a peak in the factory when I went looking to figure out how to pay for our treats. The Colts Chocolate dark chocolate “bolts” were our favorite. I even found them at Whole Foods on another trip to Nashville too. But if you want to visit this factory you will need a car if you are staying in downtown Nashville and they seem to currently have tours twice a week (If you go on this tour I’d love to hear what you think. It’s something I really wanted to try when we were there.)
Olive and Sinclair
I asked the owner of Olive and Sinclair the origin of the name of this Nashville Chocolate Factory when we went on this tour and he said he just liked the way these words sounded together and it was really cool that he was at the store when we visited. I wanted to see the Olive and Sinclair chocolate factory because of the design of their packaging and it was a really beautiful shop. The tour was about 30 minutes long and the guys and I had a great time learning about how the chocolates here are made. The caramels we bought here were also quite delicious.
Moon Pie
We didn’t visit this one and I’m not sure you can go to the actual factory but they have three General Stores in Tennessee and if we’re ever close to one I’ll definitely try to go. When I looked on the website to find out about factory tours I noticed that you can create your own customized Moon Pie box and this would make a really unique gift.
Do you look for chocolate factories when you travel? And if so, please share any memorable shop you’ve been to in the comments below.
(PS if you’re headed to Nashville, and looking for recommendations, we stayed at the Gaylord Opryland hotel, visited the Nashville Zoo and toured the area looking for the best Nashville Hot Chicken. Also, Nashville is a city that has a direct flight from Seattle.)
