When we go to Singapore, a fair amount of time is spent eating. We often search out places for prata and kaya toast. We found a really yummy prata stand in United Square Mall (an interesting kids-mall with lots of things aimed at ‘gifted’ kids) this time.
I am also a big fan of the Toastbox/Breadtalk bakery chain and this Hello Kitty tiramisu at Breadtalk not only tasted delicious but looked adorable too. We go to both Toast Box and Bread Talk every visit and I love the kaya toast and coffee.
We also spent some time at the Red Hill Food Center. I read about this carrot cake and it was absolutely yummy! But, I didn’t get a chance to get any pictures there because I was stuck in a line for chicken wings.
For some reason, this chicken wing stall had a half-an-hour lineup and I decided that I must wait. In the meantime, our family had picked up satay, prata, carrot cake and other delights.
But, the experience was worth it. When I got up closer, I saw the stall man’s hands flying as he whipped out one order after another and it was an amazing site to see. We ordered a platter full of Fried Bee Hoon noodles and chicken wings and I think it was less than $3 USD and it was delicious.
With all that eating, we also needed to find places to expend all that energy and thankfully we found some amazing gardens where we were able to do just that.
The Singapore Botanical Gardens is absolutely gorgeous. We visited early on a weekend morning and there were people exercising everywhere.
We wanted to get to the Jacob Ballas Children’s Garden, but we started at the farthest entrance away. After about an hour’s walk through the gorgeous grounds (with some water and snack stops) we arrived at a really cool area that only grown-ups accompanied by children could enter.
The treehouse was a hit.
And the guys loved the waterpark. There are so many cool playgrounds and waterparks in Singapore!
There was a little hanging bridge
and a tree-maze too.
I couldn’t believe you didn’t have to pay to visit this place!
On another evening we stopped in at Gardens by the Bay. We really wanted to see the Cloud Forest but it was closed that day. The Flower Dome was thankfully open and it was gorgeous! (It was about 10 usd per grownup and 6 dollars a child)
I especially liked the Australian Baobabs and the beautiful desert flowers.
There were also lots of places to stop and take family pictures.
The guys were enthralled by these giant trees!
When we finished it was dusk and the giant trees outside were also all lit up. The Supertrees totally remind me of something someone must have dreamed up watching Sci-Fi films and I didn’t realize they were covered by actual living plants. I really wish we could have done the walkway but the kids wanted nothing to do with it. They also couldn’t be persuaded to eat at the restaurant up top.
Thank goodness, I know we’ll be back again, because this is one of the most amazing places I’ve ever seen.
(PS. just walking around the Skytree area is absolutely free. There was also a free show the OCBC Garden Rhapsody at around 7:45 where the trees all lit up and music played. We accidentally happened on it, but I would put this as a must-see!)
