When a clothing brand reminds you to be mindful of packaging

Being more mindful about purchases because of PrAna clothing
Spread the love

I was really excited to try a few pieces from PrAna’s spring 2018 line-a cute black sweater and capri yoga pants-on our recent trip to Kauai. Have you heard of this clothing brand? I love so much about it-PrAna is stylish, comfortable, great for travel and easy to wear and I’ve partnered with them before so I’m glad to work with them again. I also really appreciate that their clothing is sustainable and helps the environment too. It’s apparent how mindful they were in making these clothes when I watched the video on their blog.

Caught taking pictures-Terumi from An Emerald City Life In Kauai

Because I was the one trying on the clothes, my husband snapped a few pictures so I could show off my outfit. I’m always more comfortable behind the camera not in front of it.  I love taking photos and I shoot all the pics for my Instagram and blog. But I need to get better at being in the photos too so we tried to just casually take pics as we went about some of our usual travel routines and it was a fun project to work on with the hubby too.

Waiting for takeout food in Kauai and trying out PrAna’s Spring 2018 clothing line

We stopped for takeout so we could grab some food and watch the sunset at the beach.  This is one of our favorite things to do on trips and at home when the weather is beautiful. In Kauai there is no shortage of sunshine or pretty places to picnic.  There was a little peekaboo stretch of rocky shore near where we stayed called Turtle Cove Koloa Landing. Just like its name suggests it is a perfect spot for spotting turtles and we saw quite a few of them playing in the water during our visit.  The kids liked scrambling on the big rocks overlooking the water and it’s a great place for an outdoor family dinner.

I know PrAna is a popular yoga wear brand and I do love going to yoga classes but I’m not a regular. I jokingly picked up my takeout food and tried a tree pose.

Do you think about how your purchases are packaged? Learning about being more mindful with PrAna

I sat down in the fading sunlight with the box.

Thinking about being more mindful about how purchases are packaged with PrAna

And then I realized in horror that my food was packaged in styrofoam!

Styrofoam!

I probably wouldn’t have noticed if I hadn’t been thinking about how happy I was that my outfit was trying to do good and not harm the environment. It might have even slipped my mind. But because I was thinking about the clothes as I photographed them I remembered that my order didn’t even come in a polybag.  It didn’t have plastic to attach any tags. There were so many ways this one clothing order made sure to NOT hurt the environment in a way that I didn’t even think about when I picked up my dinner in a Styrofoam container that one day could pollute the beautiful ocean we love. (Thankfully I recently read about bugs that eat styrofoam at our local science center.  I know this won’t do much right now, but maybe in the future it might help out a lot.)

I was suddenly and painfully aware that I have to be more mindful in my daily decisions.  We all do.

As consumers we don’t always have say in everything that goes on around us but we can make positive changes with the things that we buy. We really can.  And I hope that other companies can think about the effects of the products they make, even down to the packaging.

I’m thankful that PrAna thinks about the environment.  I like that they’re mindful about the little details that help save our earth in big ways.  And I like that they help me remember how important it is to be aware of things like sustainability, packaging and the effects of the things we buy.  I’m happy to share an electronic coupon with you (yay for no paper!) if you want to shop online: coupon code MPTPS18 will give you 15% off non-sale items until 3/20.

(PS. As stated above, I received some clothing items to review for this post and as always the views in the post are mine.  And this time the photos of me were taken by my hubby too!)
