Learning about what Swedish is doing in the community to help our neighbors.

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Swedish.

My favorite part of December this year is how much I’ve learned about how the Seattle community helps each other out. It is a festive time of year in Seattle and many of us are giving to family and friends. It is also really inspiring to hear when people and businesses give to total strangers too. And I’ve been more inspired lately to see how my family can get involved in helping others out.

And this is Why the Swedish Tending Machine at Sea-Tac Airport is such a cool way to give this holiday season

My family has already been through Sea-Tac Airport a few times this holiday season and I’ve heard that the next few weeks are supposed to be some of the busiest of the year. If you are passing through the Sea-Tac Airport in the next little while too and you have time to check out the D gate area, make sure you look around between D1 and D2. Swedish has a vending machine here that is different than most other vending machines in Seattle and it will be here through the first week of January.

It’s a tending machine not a vending machine.

When you approach the machine, you are greeted with the words “GIVE GOOD FEEL GOOD” and it explains how our city’s most vulnerable people need our help.  Anyone can purchase essential everyday items and Swedish will make sure they get to the people who need them through their “doing health for good campaign“.  For as little as $1 you can purchase a toothbrush, or you can spend a little more and buy other things like socks and rain ponchos.  I chose to donate Mylar blankets which I learned are waterproof, windproof, portable and can be reused.  The Swedish tending machine supports Mary’s Place this season and if you’ve been following my blog, you know that Mary’s Place is a Seattle non-profit that is very dear to my heart.

And this is not the only thing Swedish is doing in our community

Swedish not only encourages giving donations like the ones through the tending machine but also giving time to help our community. Swedish employees set a goal to donate 20,000 service hours to our Seattle Community this year. They have donated this time to places like Wellspring Family Services‘ baby boutique where volunteers sort and pack supplies for families and Lifelong where volunteers help with preparing and packaging food for delivery to seniors and chronically ill clients.

I’m inspired by this #healthforgood volunteering to check out opportunities to help out Mary’s Place because I didn’t know there so many ways I could help out in person.  I checked on their site and I love that there are many ways listed that I can go and help in the New Year.  I realize that feeling like I can do something to help someone else is also good for my heart and I’m thankful that I learned about these ways I can help my community from Swedish too.
