Staying at the Hyatt Regency Seattle in a club level room with kids

Spread the love

Sometimes we forget the value of a good staycation and I love when we get a chance to stay in a hotel in our own city. We needed to stay downtown for my husband’s holiday party and the Hyatt Regency Seattle seemed like a festive and fun place to stay with kids in December. This hotel is relatively new to the Seattle hotel scene-they recently celebrated their first birthday and its incredibly convenient to some of my favorite Seattle spots

The Club Level rooms at Hyatt Regency Seattle

I don’t have any status currently at Hyatt so I booked through Expedia where I am a gold member. I don’t know if that really did anything but I was able to book a Club Level room that wasn’t priced that much more than a regular room so I thought that would be a good way to at least get some snacks and breakfast while we stayed at the hotel. The hotel was cancellable until just a few days before we stayed so that was a good benefit of booking through Expedia and it was cheaper to book through Expedia because I could use “Rakuten” and get cash back.

We’ve stayed at a few hotels with club levels lately, like the Sakura Club at the Conrad in Washington DC, the Sheraton Wall Centre in Vancouver BC and the IHG club at the ANA intercontinental in Okinawa. All of these club level rooms greatly enhanced our trips so that was my goal at the Hyatt Seattle Downtown too. Club level rooms are very good value with families and having food and snacks readily available in a comfortable area makes travel so much more relaxing with kids too.

The Club Level at the Hyatt Seattle is one of the more delightful club rooms we’ve visited. Around 5pm there was quite a spread of snacks and a light buffet-type meal. Sodas and non-alcoholic drinks are included and there is an honor cash bar for wine and spirits. I loved that there were lots of very Seattle things in this lounge such as Beecher’s cheeses, Ellenos yogurts and Jones Sodas. There were also Seattle Chocolates in the lounge too and the dessert bar here was very tasty and photogenic.

The breakfast buffet in the Club Lounge was also pretty awesome. The bread at the toasting station wasn’t just grocery store bread, it comes from Grand Central Bakery which is a Seattle bakery I love. I didn’t feel like I was missing out on Seattle breakfast in a cute little cafe like I have at some places when you just get the typical eggs and make-your-own-pancake spread. We had a delicious breakfast and this was a great way to start a day of adventure in Seattle.

And how are the rooms at the Hyatt Regency Seattle?

The room we received looked exactly like the one in the picture we booked online and my family really enjoyed how comfortable it was. We booked the 2 queen beds club access room and we didn’t have a huge room but my husband noticed that it was a lot more spacious than other similar places we’ve stayed at because it didn’t have a dresser. (Does anyone actually use these in hotels?). There was a very instagrammable window ledge and a soft chair near the window too. If we were visiting from out of town, or didn’t have club access we would have appreciated the fridge in the room a lot more-I love having a simple breakfast of yogurt and fruit in the morning and those things are easy to pick up at a nearby shop like at the Amazon Go store on 7th avenue. I wish more hotels had empty refrigerators in the room like this one-it’s such a thoughtful touch.

I was a little sad because there was a shower not a bathtub because I like to escape with a book in the bath when I travel with the kids and I was hoping the window would be a bit bigger but the bench in the window was a nice touch. One of my kids really appreciated the high-tech mirror and wanted me to mention that too.

And the Hyatt Regency Seattle is right next to Nana’s green tea

I love Nana’s Green Tea* and it’s a 2 minute walk from the Hyatt Regency Seattle. It’s a Japanese chain that serves foods that I crave from Japan like curry rice and noodles but it also has amazing green tea drinks and ice cream parfaits. The Hyatt Regency Seattle is also walkable to the Amazon Spheres and if you want to get tickets you have to check in advance. The Pike Place Market is also only about 10 minutes away and if you want to check out the new revolving glass floor at the Space Needle it’s only about a twenty minute walk as well.

But what about a pool?

Sadly, oh so sadly, I have inform you that there is no pool at this hotel. If that’s a dealbreaker for your kids, I might suggest a night or two here so you can see Seattle city and then if you are making this a longer Pacific Northwest trip, stop at the Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound Washington and perhaps continue onward to the Oregon Coast. There are plenty of things to do in Seattle without a pool but my kids have protested before about hotels without pools so I totally understand. (We have also stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Bellevue and that hotel has a pool.)

For grownups the dealbreaker at this hotel might be the parking. You might consider not getting a car if you are from out of town and staying at this hotel-parking is very spendy as it is everywhere downtown Seattle nowadays (I think it was around 50 bucks when we visited). We left our car at home and used Uber to the hotel (we also thought about taking the bus but with kids its cheaper or the same price to take Uber) and it was a lot less expensive. The area near the hotel is so walkable that if you are staying here you can go completely carless.

The verdict?

The Hyatt Regency Seattle is a pretty great stay for families, especially if you can add the club room and we would gladly stay here again.

*I need to clarify my love for Nana’s green tea so you know what a big deal it is to me: I love Nana’s Green Tea even though one time I saw a picture of an artsy sakura flower topped tea on their twitter and instagram and went to the Seattle store to get it and was told that was a picture only made for instagram. Most of the time this would be unforgivable in my books but Nana’s Green Tea makes too many things that are too delicious and too beautiful that I have been back more times than I can count since this happened. I have a list of more of my other Seattle favorite restaurants as well as places I like to visit with kids in the city too.

  1. Nice post! I might give Hyatt hotel a try next time. We just stayed at the Embassy in Bellevue two weeks ago. We wanted to stay in Bellevue for the first time. Embassy offered a nice full breakfast(I personally don’t like free breakfast cause I rather finding somewhere interesting to eat). A decent pool but what the kicker was and I only found out when I got to hotel was that they offfer free drinks during happy hour. Crazy. Not just to people on the Club/VIP section but to all!!! Crazy.

    1. Good to know about that hotel too! I love that we have many choices in the area for places to stay. Thanks for chiming in:)
