We have been needing a food hall like this in Seattle forever and thank goodness Asean Streat has manifested itself in the heart of our downtown. Westlake Center is such a perfect spot in the center of our city, attached to Climate Pledge Arena and Seattle Center with the Monorail. But it’s been a bit of a food void for a little while. Right before the pandemic there was a flicker of hope when Xi’an noodles arrived in the food court upstairs as well as Matcha Cafe Maiko’s (make sure you still continue to visit these too…)
And now we have Asean Streat Eats
And no it’s not the markets in Singapore we are longing to revisit by any means, but it’s a lot closer to Seattle and the food at Asean Streat that we tried tasted good. I still wish they had prata and curry and maybe they will one day. Or maybe I need to figure out how to make prata and curry like they do in Singapore at home. (And Iced Milo and “dinosaur” drinks if you are really in the know too)
But Asean Streat has Hainanese Chicken Rice at their Bugis Street vendor. We had delicious Singaporean Noodles. And you can get things made vegetarian and non-vegetarian and the options are endless. We ordered everything easily through one kiosk and then picked them up one by one at various outlets in the food hall. I think it would take a few days to eat through all the food in this place. I’ll post the dishes we try here as I try them.
When I first visited I checked the Asean Streat instagram and blog to figure out who were the people behind this place and thought it might be run by the owners of Racha Thai-my husband confirmed it when he read this article in the Seattle Times (we’re long-time subscribers, it’s so important to read your local newspaper). We ate at Racha Thai a lot when we lived in the Queen Anne neighborhood and I’m so thankful these locals have created something so special in our city. I know it’s really helping to bring people to downtown Seattle and we have so needed this. This Seattleite is passing on a thank you from all of us.
(PS. if you like this new Seattle food hall you might also enjoy these other two food halls in Tukwila too.)
