I always knew we loved flowers in this city. Have you ever been to Pike Place Market? But I had no idea we could pick flowers IN our city. And actually I’m not sure if there are any places right in our city to pick flowers yet. But when I went to tour Skagit Valley Farm Stands recently I noticed a U-pick flower stand and then when I went for a soccer tournament with my kid I saw a few on Bainbridge Island too. And so I thought I better start rounding up all the u-pick flowers near Seattle so I remember to go in upcoming years. (Make sure you click through to the farm’s actual websites to figure out opening times. I once called a peanut farm in North Carolina to see if we could visit only to find out that we were two months out from the harvest season window.)
Bainbridge Island- Dahlias
Suyematsu Farms
A u-pick dahlia stand at Suyematsu farm on Bainbridge Island is what triggered this post so I think it should be the first farm entry. I visited in September of 2023 and Dahlia season will end at some point this month. By this time there were also pumpkins at the farm too. And the Dahlias were beautiful and incredibly tall! Cutting shears here are only for use by grownups and supervised children over 7 years old. Outside of farm opening hours this farm has sip-n-snip parties if you want to cut flowers and have an event with guests. In the winter it sounds like you can cut trees at this farm which is a fun Seattle tradition as well. (unless you just want to go to the forest to cut your tree…) All information about u-pick on this farm can be found on the Suyematsu farm website.
Paulson Farms
I also followed u-pick flower signs for about 5 minutes from Suyematsu farm to Paulson farms where you might also be able to pick Dahlias in this season too. This one sounds like it’s only open on weekends (or if you call ahead they might open weekdays too) when I checked but of course this can always change so check the website. I already had dahlias from Suyematsu farms when I got here but I bought tomatoes and they had so many varieties. There were also a lot of dahlias here and next time I go to Bainbridge Island I might even visit this farm first.
Skagit Valley
Blackburn Gardens-assorted flowers
Skagit Valley is where I first saw u-pick flowers. I visited the farm stand at Blackburn gardens and this is where I saw a sign where you could make an appointment to U-pick flowers. We were already there so couldn’t make an appointment but the flowers I bought at the stand were really cute and the farm stand was adorable too.
Carnation area Farms
Oxbox Farms-assorted flowers
Oxbox Farm is usually open from May-November. When I checked the website in September it sounds like there are sunflowers and Zinnias currently along with some fruit and vegetables you can pick yourself too. Make sure you check their website for yourself before you go too.
North Bend
Frisky Girl Farm U-pick sunflowers
This farmstand in North Bend has beautiful produce and you can pick sunflowers here on weekends through October 1st in 2023 (it started in mid-August so maybe this will be the same in other years too.). As always check the website before you visit so you aren’t disappointed.
I’ll keep updating this list especially for upcoming years. I really hope we get more U-picks in and around our city!
And a few other things you might like too if you are looking for u-pick flowers near Seattle
If you love flower farms you might also love cranberry farms. Most of these are north of Seattle in Canada but still not too far for a day’s adventure. Maybe we’ll get some nearer to Seattle with a bog you can hop into one day soon!
You can pick chestnuts in late September and early October at Lazy Squirrel Farms in Mount Vernon. Make sure you put this on your calendar if this is important. We keep missing it so it’s on my one day goals. Just keep checking the website and it’s social media platforms.
And here are some really great Farm Stands you can visit in Skagit Valley too.
Do you love picking flowers (and doing all things farm like me?) If you have a favorite place to U-pick flowers near Seattle that I haven’t listed, please feel free to message!
