Deep Sea Diver and a really wet Folk Life weekend

Spread the love

The guys are absolutely in love with Recess Monkey since we saw them in concert at Teatro Zinzanni last year and we were recently sent their new album, (their 9th!!! by the way!) Deep Sea Diver to check out.  The tunes are really catchy and I know I’ve heard them sing one of them called “Fish Sticks” a few times around the house.

This past weekend we checked them out at the Folk Life Festival (It’s totally festival season in Seattle and it’s so exciting!)  even though it was pouring rain.  It’s usually one of our favorite Seattle festivals because it’s so low key.  With good food and good music everywhere you turn it’s always a lot of fun.

It was fun hearing a couple of the new songs live and I got the giggles as the Recess Monkey turned the whole crowd into a mini-moshpit with their “Popcorn” song from their last album: In Tents.

I’m excited to see what their release party will be like in a few weeks.  It’s at the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport, Washington (I still need to figure out where this is-it sounds like it’s about 25 minutes from Bainbridge Island) and if you’re out that way, you’ll even get to explore a submarine!!

    1. If you get a chance Caspar Babypants is performing at Teatro Zinzanni and we saw the Recess Monkeys play there last year and it was amazing! I’d checked Red Tricycle, Parentmap and Seattle’s Child for the weekend plans. I’m not sure how old your kids are but if you’re looking to get out as just grownups and if they’re over 4 the MOHAI is having a drive-in movie night on Friday and it’s really closed to yummy South Lake Union restaurants or Saturday the zoo is doing the same thing and it’s close to Fremont and Ballard. Anyways, message me if you think you’ll go to the zoo during the week and I’ll see if we can pop by and say hello:)
