Spectacular sunsets at Semiahmoo Resort in Blaine, Washington and another great Pacific Northwest hotel stay with a yorkie poo pup

Spread the love

I went to Semiahmoo Resort as a kid with my family maybe 30 years ago around the time when it first opened. I remember walking along the water, having fun in the pool that was both indoors and outdoors and just having a really wonderful stay with my sister and my parents. This is the kind of feeling I want my kids to have when they look back on the things we did as a family. So I was really curious to find out if this place has changed much after so much time when I was hosted there with my husband, kids and pup a few weeks ago.

Semiahmoo Resort might have the most epic sunsets I’ve ever seen

Semiahmoo Resort is on a long spit that juts out into the ocean so the drive into the resort is just majestic. We somehow timed our first night perfectly and as we drove up to the spit, the sky burst into oranges, and reds and glittery light on the water and I kept snapping photos from the window. When we checked in I mentioned that the sun was taking a long time to actually set, and the staff member at the front desk told me that the sunsets here last a long time.

S’more kits and local ingredients at this Washington Resort

As soon as we arrived at Semiahmoo Resort we were offered s’more kits and these were the sweetest idea. They had a little bag of marshmallows, a package of graham crackers, Hershey’s chocolate bars and roasting sticks so guests could take them to the fire pits near the beach in front of the resort. The s’mores along with the Bellingham based West Coast Pops that we bought in the gift shop and coffee shop at the resort were our favorite treats on this trip.

Electric charging

And it is so awesome to have electric car charging at this resort. We had heard the Tesla charger wasn’t working before we arrived but we saw people fixing it when we were there and were told that the next time we visit it would be working again. It’s great to see more and more hotels have electric charging available. We also use the Tesla chargers nearby at the Supercharger in Birch Bay Square when we’re in the area but not staying at the Semiahmoo Resort. My kids like getting Italian sodas at Woods Coffee in Birch Bay Square too.

Rooms with balconies and ocean views might be worth the splurge

The rooms with balconies would be my best choice especially if you want to wake up and have coffee in the fresh ocean air. With a pup and young kids I would try to get the ones on the bottom floor facing the beach so all you need to do is open your door and head outside.

Packers Kitchen and Bar

Indoor and Outdoor dining was available when we visited but our guys weren’t vaccinated yet so we were just going to take out and eat in our room. It turned out we found a really nice table outside and it was spaced enough away from other guests that we changed our plans and had a lovely dinner al fresco. The food at Packers Kitchen and Bar was really delicious and with the water view and guests all happily dining and strolling around us, we really enjoyed this meal.

We also had coffee and cinnamon buns from the coffee stand near the lobby and that was good too. We noticed a lot of local ingredients and products highlighted all over the resort and I picked up a locally made candle as well. I love when resorts like this help out their neighbors and you can feel this kind of sense of community at the Semiahmoo Resort.

Semiahmoo Resort is close to Peace Arch Park

And because of the era, this resort seems really popular with people heading to meet up with family at Peace Arch Park. Semiahmoo Resort is only about 20 minutes from Peace Arch Park which made it a really convenient stay so that we could wave at family from across a ditch and catch up without technology. I can’t believe this is where we are at 1.5 years later, but I’m thankful for small things like this that heal our hearts a bit.

And the Semiahmoo Resort pool?

It’s just the same as when we came here ages ago. You swim through the indoors out to the outdoors and to kids that pretty magical. And while Scout and I couldn’t enter the pool area (no pups) I peeked at my kids as they swam and splashed in the shadow of a place where I swam and splashed when I was about their age and I thought fondly about my childhood and it was one of the happiest moments I’ve had this year.

(PS we were hosted guests at the Semiahmoo Resort and as always my views on this blog and in this post are my own.)
