The Amazing Brentwood in Burnaby BC is quickly becoming on of my go-to places to eat and shop when we head north from Seattle to see family in Canada. I’ve been eagerly anticipating the opening of the Gram Cafe there-this is a well- known souffle pancake chain in Japan and there are a few other locations now in the Vancouver area. We tried soufflé pancakes on a Japan trip in 2019 and I’ve been hoping to find them closer to home.

Takeout souffle pancakes from the Gram Cafe

We have once again put a pause on indoor eating in our family so when I stopped at the Gram Cafe in January I knew I had to do takeout. There is no designated outdoor seating for this cafe, but there are lots of outdoor spaces and tables at the Amazing Brentwood where you can eat outside. Souffle pancakes can take a long time to make and even in Japan we noticed many souffle pancake places had long lines or needed reservations. I noticed there were ready made pancakes in a glass case at the store so we ended up taking out these souffle pancakes instead of waiting for freshly made ones. These ones had tasty fillings like Oreo cookie cream, matcha and strawberries so I bought a box of 5 so we could try a variety at home.

I still think made to order souffle pancakes will be the best at the Gram Cafe. The takeout pancakes were delicious but there is nothing like a fluffy warm souffle pancake on a glass plate with all the fancy toppings. I know we’ll be back again when we can dine in again. I’m just thankful the Gram Cafe also had takeout this time so we could try them and the inside of the cafe had the cutest decor too.

If the Gram Cafe is busy you might also try Japadog

Japadog is one of our favorite pre-hockey game meals when we are in downtown Vancouver and there is also a kiosk in the food court at the Amazing Brentwood too. Along with all the hotdogs with interesting toppings and Aonori topped French fries, there are also ice cream buns on the menu that might be a treat alternative if you can’t get pancakes at Gram.

aburi sushi from Yugo at the Amazing Brentwood

And if you like Aburi Sushi?

My mom and I visited the Amazing Brentwood around lunchtime and we tried takeout aburi sushi from Yugo and it was really delicious. Restaurant Yugo even has a few vegetarian options on the menu too and kids’ meals as well.

And Small Victory Bread and Coffee is also at the Amazing Brentwood too

Small Victory Bread and Coffee, a locally based bakery/coffee shop has a few stores now-I still love the Granville street location the best, but the one at the Amazing Brentwood is spacious and beautiful as well. They have a glass case full of delicious pastries and other treats. Their coffee is good (I also like Soon Coffee at this mall as well) and I like the way they serve the pastries on pretty wooden trays. It feels a little fancier than what you would expect from a coffee shop in a mall and we’ve been here a few times now.

But definitely I’m most excited about Gram Cafe at the Amazing Brentwood (isn’t this the coolest name for a mall?) Hopefully soon we’ll be able eat inside again and try the souffle pancakes on real plates. Have you ever tried this type of pancake?

Also, there were Lunar New Year decorations up at the Amazing Brentwood when we visited and they were so pretty.
