The last time the Lion King musical came to Seattle my guys were small enough to need boosters to watch the show. This time around, they can even drive the family and they’re still looking forward to seeing it again. I have a discount code for 10% off the Lion King Musical tickets in Seattle that you can find through this link. The musical is in our city from December 5th to January 5th and it’s nice to have this one here through the holiday season. The Lion King musical is 2 hours and 30 minutes including an intermission and I think it’s a great first musical if you’re new to the genre. (And I guess if you’re a fan of anything Disney, you’re already pretty much a musical lover.) There are great costumes, puppetry and music and an entertaining storyline, and seeing it at the Paramount Theatre makes it feel really special.

What to expect with the Lion King musical and is it appropriate for kids?
I have been attending these shows as media for years and I was invited to a preview before the show. The puppets are really intricate, especially Zazu. You can see a little bit of how Zazu the puppet works here. Zazu is also performed by an incredibly talented performer and will likely be a favorite in the show. I also learned a bit about the costumes and how Pride Rock moves somewhat like a toy train on tracks.
From what I’ve read, this show is recommended for kids 6 and up. We went with my kids when they were around 10 years old. If you’ve seen the Disney movie this is pretty much the same with a bit more drawn out parts for the Hyenas and a few different songs. A spoiler but you already probably know this: the part where Mufasa and Scar die are probably the toughest parts for kids.
If you have young kids in tow when you go and are headed to the Paramount Theatre in Seattle, I would also recommend scoping out where the bathrooms are before the show if you are unfamiliar with this theatre. The line ups for the women’s restroom can be extremely long during intermission. When I visited on opening night the bathroom line up was really well organized. You will want to be in your seats on time. And if you can get seats on the outside aisles for this show, they may be especially magical.
There is a sensory friendly performance of the Lion King musical on December 13th in Seattle (the 2pm show) that might help young theatre goers as well. I know one of my guys had a difficult time with loud noises in movies and plays when he was small and would have appreciated this.
(Also when I looked at my posts, apparently we went to a Lion King musical performance at Hong Kong Disneyland that was incredibly good too!
