Isn’t it wild how it seems like we blink and a year and a bit can fly by. In my guys’ 10th grade school year, I decided that Paris would be our Thanksgiving trip and we madly booked last minute flights from Seattle to Paris (non-stop flights only) and three nights hotel. Having only three nights in Paris (we spent a fourth on the airplane) we decided to stay in one hotel instead of breaking up our trip into a couple destinations as we usually do. I debated a few places (and also many were already booked up) but landed on the Astotel Hotel 34B because they had an intriguing family room set up as well as breakfast included and a daily drink and snack bar (which we’ve found so helpful when traveling with teens) and a great location walkable to a few places we wanted to see.

We ended up in the Duplex Room at Hotel 34B
I actually think I might have booked the family room with Expedia where I have VIP status so I think we got an upgrade at this hotel. I booked only a few weeks before we left so I didn’t really put much thought into where we stayed. If I looked at the actual Astotel website beforehand I would have known more about the rooms: sometimes it’s hard to know what exactly you’re going to get through the Expedia website. It’s only now looking back that I realize that we probably got an upgrade to the Duplex Room.
I chose this hotel because my guys wanted a gym (I actually don’t think they used it) and it had some kind of daily snack buffet (we loved this) and it was in between a few areas we wanted to explore. This room also had two bathrooms which we are starting to need in order to be time efficient and to keep family harmony on short trips when we travel with teens.

The Duplex Room at Hotel 34b in Paris was very comfortable for a family of 4 (including teenagers). There were two bathrooms (one with a shower and one with a bathtub) and we had a bed upstairs and a bed (two singles put together) downstairs in this spacious room. The decor was very chic and we often took the stairs instead of the elevators because we loved the colorful Paris theme of the hallways.

What is nearby Hotel 34B in Paris? Maybe the oldest chocolate shop in Paris
Literally almost across the street from Hotel 34B is a gorgeous chocolate shop that’s been there since 1761: La Mere de Famille. According to its website it is the oldest chocolate shop in Paris so I was excited to be nearby. Given that I love stumbling upon things like this (ie the oldest tofu shop in Portland, or the oldest pub in Ireland and maybe the world) it made me enjoy staying at Hotel 34B even more.

On the way to the Louvre (maybe about 12 minutes from Hotel 34B) we walked by the Bibliotheque National de France and we popped in to check it out- it’s such a gorgeous library. I think I remember seeing parts of it in the Paris Olympic Games videos so it was neat to see it in real life. We enjoyed walking up to see the Sacre Couer to take in some gorgeous sunsets and picking up treats and snacks at bakeries and cafes around the hotel.
During this trip we also visited the Eiffel Tower, took in a Paris St-Germaine soccer game and had an American Thanksgiving dinner at Treize au Jardin. Three nights (plus one on the plane overnight to Paris from Seattle) ended up being ample time for a fun November getaway over American Thanksgiving weekend.
